You don't look through the lid. Look through the side.

I also use a head lamp or flash light when I look at my pasty plates. Try back lighting, side lighting, and indirect to see inside the plates. The red light setting on my headlamp is very helpful in seeing light colored things on dark agar. Use light and look through the side friend!

I looked around in the post and havent been able to find this info anywhere. How much liquid agar should i add to each mini round? Is there a certain amount of teaspoons/tablespoons you guys aim for?

just divide it evenly between 8-10 plates dont take the time to measure it out. they do not need to be perfectly all the same size. some variation is totally fine. just eyeball it.

Cover the base of the vessel with a layer thats thick enough to cover the base even at a slight angle, but not too thick as you're wasting agar . remember, you're creating a 2D growing environment for the myc. When I pour petris I aim to be as thin as feasible.

Between 1.5 teaspons and 2.5 teaspoons works pretty well.

I notified on a batch of my to pasty plates the paper towel seems to have eaten the layer of micropore tape I had covering the GE hole I have in the center of the lid. Would it be okay to use these if I just loosened the aluminum foil and kept the paper towel in place?

Tape is the most important part. Idk how the towel 'ate' the tape, but without the tape you'll be growing mold. The foil keeps the water content right and the towel keeps the tape from sticking to the foil. The tape os the filter

alright so the slight discoloration has now turned into this, but it didnt get this bad until i after i took the transfers i wanted and left it open outside my SAB for a couple moments. is this bacteria or what? should i be worried about my other plates that show this very slightly as opposed to this one thats full on brown now? worth noting that this baby smells very strongly of mushrooms, very strong.

looks to me like the myc is just doing away with the food coloring. this is normal. i don't know why or how but the myc seems to consume food coloring.

I've noticed that some no-pours of mine that contamed with yeast got discoloured as it looked like the yeast also ate the food colouring, but that was uniform across the puck.
Healthy myc does eat the colouring like yours shows magikarp

My first go at agar is looking good so far. These APE clones are finally starting to come to life.
Getting some pasty's ready for some more adventures into this.
Thanks for a simple low profile way for me to get into agar.

After Pcing these containers do you take the paper towel off the top ? I left mine on and im getting some growth healthy growth but there is so much condensation on the walls of the container plus little puddles on the agar. So far it hasn't caused and contams so that is good but its super hard to see in the side of the container because of all the condensation im just wondering if i take the paper towel off would it maybe dry out a bit. It seems in most the pics i see people seem to leave the paper towel on.

It wont help to take it off. If you cant see flick the sides and itll dry out quicker

After inoculating you are supposed to remove the foil and paper towel. The hole with the micropore tape should be completely exposed. Condensation is totally normal and should begin drying up over the course of a week or so. The paper towel could be preventing your condensation from drying, as well as probably restricting the gas exchange. Definitely remove the paper towel and foil.

You're making things up. Paper towels don't limit ge and they are the best moisture wicks there are

I always get major condensation on the sides after PCing. My current project has what I assume is aerial mycelium.

i took the paper towel off im thinking mine arnt drying up because i made 1/8" hole for FAE instead of the 1/4" it said in the tek and i put 3 layers of micropore tape on it. Im getting some real healthy looking mycelium on my agar just so much water pooling up now

Oh my bad. My condensation usually dries up within a week, so i figured that was due to evaporation through the GE hole. I figured a thick bundled up piece of paper towel would restrict the air movement through that hole, which would cause less evaporation. Definitely dont take what i said as fact, was just kinda guessing. Id still remove the paper towel tho.
