I don't understand the difference between a standard agar tek and "no-pour" agar tek. Seems like they both require you to "pour" agar into petri dish/glad/jar/etc.
In other words, why is this tek any more convenient than petri dish? Also, I think you can get a 20 pack of petri dishes off Amazon for 10 bucks free shipping. So wouldn't that be superior and efficient, to these large glad containers that are gonna take up a ton of space for just 8 transfers?

Cinder, in this no-pour tek we pour the agar first THEN throw it in the PC to sterilize it. When it comes out it's ready for the spore prints, cloning tissue, etc. already.
If you're using petri dishes you have to sterilize the agar in a seperate bottle, then using a flow hood or SAB pour the sterilized agar into the petri dishes before it's ready for the prints. So this no-pour way the last pouring step is taken out.

The difference between pour and no pour is with petri dishes you sterilise the agar in one bottle then pour it into pre sterilised dishes in a SAB or in front of a flow hood. With no pour you fill your PP5 containers before sterilisation. Also petris can only be used once where as PP5 containers can be re sterilised for several runs. I like using petris for the visibility but PP5s are much more available to me and no pour saves me from having to pour plates which is kind of a pain to do.

I'm sorry, what's a PP5? Is that the Glad container Pastywhite uses in his tek?
And I didn't know you couldn't reused petris.
This is starting to make a lot more sense now.

Pp5 is the recycle code look on the bottom of your container if it has those recycle arrows with a 5 in it it is pp5

PP is polypropylene 5 is the recycling code there's no such thing as pp5(but we say it anyway to refer to any plastic made from PP)
no other plastic than PP has the recycling code 5.
If it has the 5 or PP or PP5 it's able to go in a PC without melting.

I warped mine in the presto, but it was because I taped a quarter and a dime, or something like that to my weight to get it up to 17 psi, but I still cooked them, as long, I can be stupid sometimes like that! the whole point of taping the weights on the weight was to shorten my cook time, but I have no conversion chart so it was useless, and I had done this on grains before the pp5 contaners, and forgot to take them off
I have been using the screwtops after that and have had no problems, but I do not beleive I would have had the problems, had I not taped the weights on like a fool!

I've done this three times so far, and have had lots of condensation all 3 times. And all 3 times I've had the agar at room temp before it went in the PC. Anyone else experience this? Is this something we have to live with doing the agar in these bowls like this?

I get lot of condensation to. I just shake mine up and dump the excess water on the floor of my SAB at inoculation.

Clever enough Muda, I'll try that out. I'm hoping some of the water will slowly evaporate over the course of the next few days/week.

Its tricky but I believe it to mainly come from the shutting off of the PC, when you just shut it right off there's a major temp drop/difference so I was slowly shutting it off bit by bit but rather then fight the waves I've since opted to just prep my plates and wait a couple days for them to clear up

yeah i always i think it's best to wait a couple days before inoculating and it'll mostly clear up in the following days... i don't think a little bit of condensation is a problem

Hey pasty can you advice me if I am to use electric steamer to sterilize my pp5 containers... they seem perfect for the job.. I'm under the impression it's doable since you can steam sterilize brf cakes... thanks a lot.. this agar thingy should be dealt with soon!
