It works, moreover, it rekindled my love for growing again after getting so frustrated with terrible results.

These were started with Agar, my first set of jars. Are they ready for a shake?

The Ziploc square mini 4oz containers are junk. The lids would not snap on tight and would only just kind of rest on the top of the containers. I suspect the heat from the pressure cooker caused some sort of deformity and compromised the fitment. Off to the drawing boards I go.

I like when the lids get loose and just rest on the container. Makes it easier to handle instead of struggling to snap off a tight lid while trying to keep things still.

Yeah, I think I am off to get more containers for plates. I really need to work on my A2A, yesterdays transfers were....very indicative of learning opportunities and the need for practice.
Side note, I thought Goodcook mini containers would be amaze-balls for pasty plates because they are so clear! They die in the PC, the lid deforms and I had to pry it off with a screw driver (sterilizedsanitized*thanks tryp* with alcohol of course, calm down!). They will work for one run but I don't think I will PC them again.

Did I do something wrong
1 cup water, 1 tsp agar, 2 tsp potato flakes, 2 tsp honey
PC 45 minutes 15 psi
Now 1 hour later I just took it out of PC to look and it's still liquid. What happened? How do I fix this? I did not use enough agar?

Not enough agar. You need to use 20 grams per 1 litre and you only used like 2.5
Agar is what makes it stiff. If you don't use enough it's just soupy.
Edit. Just reread the tek. You used too much water. The measurements given are for 120 ml of water.

Your nick is lifescientist, so get organised and use a scale. 10g agar 10g Malt extract 2g dextrose for 500ml water is my go to.

was it still hot? it has to cool off to solidify. you have to remove them from the PC and let them sit on the counter and cool off. then you have a nice slat solid surface of agar.

Oh. I threw them away lol! I assumed the lids had to fit tighter to keep tams out. I like to make things harder than they need to be..

Two quick questions
-Once these agar jars are inoculated and starting to colonize can/should I remove the paper towel for airflow? I do have 2 layers of micropore tape covering hole under paper towel
- Is this a suffecient agar recipe?
500 ml h20 10gram Agar Agar (telephone brand) 10 gram Light Malt Extract (powder)
It sits fine in the dish I am wondering if there is too much/ not enough nutrition with this recipe
Thanks so much

Thats a bit more than i typically use but thats perfect for spore germination. It may be a little stiff, but it should work. Paper towel doesn't change gas exchange significantly at all

Another dumb question by yours truly...
I bought spores from a sponsor. They came in these syringes with the clean needle and stuff (that I didn't ended up flame sterilizing because I took it out of the package...). Anyway I basically just tried to ensure that the black stuff got onto the agar. Does it matter or for future reference do I need to mix the black and the saline? I'm so stupid. Thank you all. It's been ~30 hours and no growth yet
Mod edit: please don't mention sponsors by name in mush cult. Thank you.

Take the sponsors name out of the post since they are for microscopy only.
Usually you shake the syringe really well and then just put one drop of solution on the agar plate. You might get lucky with those but I would do some others while your waiting and make sure that you still flame sterilize the syringe before dropping spores on the agar.
