Maybe something weird about the agar I use? It's made from seaweed, comes with integrated food coloring (which I thought was handy) and has vanilla added... No added sugars or anything though.

That happened as you poured them.

Thanks mush but what exactly is wrong with this one? I didn't find anything about it using the search.
Unfortunately Telephone brand is hard to come by here in Indonesia but Satelit is sold in every corner store...

When I poured it, it had a nice and flat surface and nothing splashed around. Looked like that after I took it out from the PC the next morning...

Hey Pasty and Friends!
So I am a super noob, but I started with agar using your tek because it seemed like the best use of my resources. As I have been reading, I see a lot of petri agar users isolating mycelium for up to 6 transfers in new, clean, plates. Using this tek, do you recommend having extra plates for transfers? Or just using plates that colonize well and quickly to tiger drop into grain jars, and letting any contam. plates go? *edit* It is clear that people using pasty plates are transferring to isolate, should have read more before posting.
Thanks again for the tek and the write up, I have included a link in my grow journal.

We transfer to clean, not to isolate. Always have something to transfer to

I transfer to clean, clone, expand, and isolate. Agar has several uses.

For sure, i just wanted to clarify that there is a difference and someone new to agar will be in for a hell of a time attempting to isolate

I have 16 of the Ziploc square extra small 4 oz. containers in the pc right now. I couldn't find the glad mini rounds around here so I hope these will work. Used polyfill stuffed into 1/4 hole in lid and wrapped in foil. I also used malt agar. Has anyone tried these containers with this tek? Do you think the ziplocs will be good? Thank you and happy trails..

Your Tek is amazing, thank you for sharing! As a first time grower, making agar easy and simple has been very helpful. I have 32 plates...well about to be 31 I think, some bluish mold, oh well. So 32 and 23 have mycelial growth, pretty happy with that. Anyway, I want to take 2 or 3 of these plates and do A2A and A2G, when I select my plate should I pick one like sample 1 that is robust, thick and like half a snowball, or like the second that has taken over large area, but is not growing up or thick as well like sample 3? Or are both good potential candidates? Really appreciate the Tek and your help! Sample 1 Sample 3

They work fine. Inuse a bit more agar than the glad minis because the bottom is an uneven surface.

There's no way to tell performance on agar. Read through This and This
