Poly for agar plates sounds like a lot of work, you'll have no issues with MP tape either.

Yea the MP tape is doing really well on these.
I just made up another set of blue MEA for my third transfers which I intend to use a 1.5" needle on; hoping for first isolates.

I dunno man, some readers on this thread says you can flip it and just pour the condensation on your SAB prior to agar works...
well, sometimes one has to learn the hard way, aint it now

you can definitely flip it and pour the condensation. you can also store them upside down. i just don't store them upside down. i would absolutely pour off pooled water if i had any though.

I don't have condensation issues. I found it dissapates in a day or two.

Since the thread is huge, it's worth repeating again, I guess: the standard white surgical tape you can get for $1 a role works just fine for PP's. I've never been able to find MP tape and have only used this.
RR said storing plates upside down dries them out faster as it kinda leeches the moisture from the puck. I've never bothered with it. When I used to get condensation to pooling water, I'd dump it after opening them in SAB. I also used to wipe them with the paper towel under the foil. Now I just flick the little bit of condensation onto the puck to avoid visibility issues and it evaporates/absorbs. Usually I don't have problems either way, though.

I don’t think I’ll ever do agar any other way. I tried to pour my own once and couldn’t get the consistency how I wanted. This is just too easy. As far as condensation goes, I’ve had a little but it dissipates after a while and I don’t use mine immediately. I’m also from the school of thought that if there’s anything in there that’s ‘going to’ grow before I knock it up, let it happen before I do under favorable conditions like condensation.
Thanks Pastywhyte I love using this tek.

What do you guys do with all your extra plates?
I assume fridge, LI, or dispose. I'm finding myself throwing away a lot of clean pucks, lol.

Point is, you end up with way more plates than you need - I quickly did.
I'd made up a blender jar for LI but did a side by side of LI and LC and the LC stomped it out, which I also have in abundance. Either way, the LC is superior - which honestly surprised me even though they looked great.
Anyway, I thought someone might have ideas, but a fridge is about all I could think of as well. I have a fridge for this purpose, but it's empty for now. Up to third transfers with two varieties, used the poke/biopsy method to reduce the amount of tissue transfered from plate to plate. By the way, it's a thousand times easier than using a scalpel.

No offense meant plurfect. I don’t get to use that joke often. Unused plates I’ve been keeping at room temp until needed. Fully colonized plates that I dont have a use for atm I have in a little wine fridge we’re not using to slow growth. If a TC has any input on the fridge I’d like to hear it.

I'm over it.
Time to go to work. I'd like to hear a TC's thoughts on puck storage as well. The reason I have none in my fridge is, this is probably the transfer where I'll see my first clean isolate/s. I'll also be able to take clones soon. Those will go on ice so to speak.

I put mine in shoebox totes to hang at room temperature until I need them. No reason to toss them in the fridge.

Some have condensation and others don't. If they do condensate then it's only covering like 5-10% in one area.

I've just been using this expensive rubbermaid container I bought ages ago, kinda similar to a shoebox in size actually.
Have 9 plates from third transfers, I disposed of the rest. Once I see isolates (anytime now) and begin testing them I'll begin saving pucks.

I get condensation WITH the paper towels and foil and I do a nutty job wrapping them up, too.
Gonna give the side-holes a try next time I buy some mini-rounds. Good thing they are cheap AF.

I never store blank plates in the fridge. You want any contamination present to grow so you can see it. We only use the fridge to slow down cultures we want to keep.
