Sometimes I use 3 or 4 layers of tape. Just add a strip every now and then.
I never worry about carmelization with agar. Even 60 mins doesn't really hurt anything IME.

So you're not using any polyfil?

I use polyfill on all my PPs. For no other reason than it's what I have lying around. If I had micropore tape I would use it.

Don't use pasty plates in a pc the way RR does agar bottles, it will ruin them. You only need an inch or two of water in the bottom.
Edit: If you want an agar bottle, you can do this:

I don't use poly on anything anymore. Pain in the ass. I do micropore tape on my monos now too.

I actually like the results better as well. Micropore is way easier. I also do SFD, CFD, and unmodified lids.

Newer. I'd heard they don't work as well, but only from one person.
I only gave the poor advice on RR's method for PC'ing agar media because he was using a mason jar, not gladware - and sorta forgot what thread I was in. That's my bad, but yea, definitely don't want a lot of water in for this, follow the TEK.

There's nothing about water level in the tek that I can see. I've been filling level with the agar to try and prevent boil up. I tried another batch with foil over the lids the other night and I still ended up with a little standing water in some of them. I'll try with less water next time.
This was the first time I tried using the microwave to boil my agar because I kept having issues with burnt powder when I used the stove. I used a 1 quart jar with a plastic lid and it would only go for about 30 seconds in the microwave before it wanted to boil over. I shook the fuck out of it and all the plates looked clear, but they still came out of the PC horrible. Like a fertilized egg yolk.

I used the "agar agar powder" here...
It has sugar in it and it seems to take a shit ton with my malt extract to gel up fully. I think I can make it work, but I feel foolish. There was one lasy 25g packet of the telephone brand and I grabbed this because I thought it was 6oz of pure agar.

Found some dressing containers at kash and kerrys (sc?) that both the lids and containers are pp5. They are easier to see through and work good in place of the glad containers for anybody interested.

How does this agar look? 2nd transfer. Im still learning how to see hidden contams and what not. It's hard to take a picture through the pasty plate this is the best I could do.

It's bacterial. Start taking transfers sooner.

i dont see bacteria but yea transfer as soon as you can get a single rice grain worth of agar usually 3-4 days after making a transfer.

I've already made two transfers from it. Should I toss that one? A lot of my growth is tomentose is that fine? There was some rhizo growth on another plate that I transferred and it eventually turned tomentose. Also does the halo in the middle indicate anything?
