Use them for weed.

I do use them for weed but thought I could use them as a plate substitute that would be cool to make a mini cake too and see what happens

My suggestion would be to find some way to hold them on a slant so that working with them would be easier. If you have access to tools you could make a little rack

Pasty..awesome tek! I'm a longtime lurker, relative newbie, and will be using this tek to get started with agar.
question for you guys, has anyone here split up the mini-round bowl into 2 or 3 compartments. I'm thinking of driving some sort of plastic there to give myself some more compartments to work with in each bowl.
Anyone does this before? If not, will let you guys how it works out..

the mini rounds are already so small but you could. I think it'll be more trouble than it's worth. keep them as is and use the rounds for the tiger drop instead. Maybe with the ziploc round (which is a little bigger) would be better for multiple sections. (but the ziplocs make the tiger drop impossible because they're too big) Tiger drop is your best bet IMO... Just do more pastyplates instead of dividing them.

I see..tiger-dropping 1/2 of a round wouldn't be effective? From what I've seen/read from RR, reading here and TMC, I gathered that you could just cut a small section from the colonized agar to inoculate a master jar, just the more the better.
In any case I'll use whole rounds like you guys suggest and maybe play around with the sectioning later on.

I found that when I go to wrap my pp5s in foil, it's easier to get them to lay flat if you lay them on a square of foil and wrap upwards to the top, rather than starting with the lid. I haven't had any moisture problems yet.

I'm curious as to why people are wrapping these in foil at all...
For years I've used nothing but unmodified containers — no foil, no paper towels, no filters... just slightly loosened lids. Whether for grain or agar, I get flawless results. It's true I usually remove things from the PC in sterile laminar airflow, but twist-tightening the lid as you quickly transfer them to the still-air box should do just about as well. I know several people that use these unmodified in still-air boxes and they have no problems.

Why bother? What advantage is there in sectioning that makes it worth the while and materials? For plastic dishes you throw away after a single use, I definitely see the huge boon of sectored dishes. But when you can re-use these pp5 containers over and over again for free, I hardly see the point in the effort.

Because there are no threads, requiring a hole to prevent the vacuum from crushing the container. But you already know that Yes I know yours don't need foil, but I don't need a 170mm container thats 100mm tall taking up room I don't have, that I feel like I am reaching into. Its about preference and while your method has merits, its not for me. I'm pretty sure we already went over this on page 2

Agreed. I also find that sectioned petris are a pain as well, I am always super paranoid about that last section.
Good to see you back tho

It's not at all about "my methods" tho, friend. You don't think you could just sterilize them with the lid not snapped on? Either partially or fully off. I have done it before with square food storage containers. For sure I've taken en masse prints several times that way, I even snagged a photo once of printing foil in a square container I sterilized with the lid just sitting loosely on the edge of the container:

Once I learned that foil isn't necessary to cover SFDs back when I still used jars, I stopped using foil in the cooker for everything, except wrapping my tools to keep them sterile until use. These should be no different.

Well I might giver a try and see how it does. . . tho you do bring up one reason I like the foil, keeps everything really sterile until inoculation.

this ^^^ i never even really got sectored petris either tho. its more work to pour. why not put 3 cultures on 1 plate?
