Ahh ok. I was expecting them to snap on as good as new again. To be honest I tried them on a whim and I much prefer petri dishes at this point. I got used to the security of parafilm and being able to toss stuff around a bit.

I like the reusable options over petris like 1/4 or 1/2 pint jars. These are secure as shit, you just have to handle the cup instead of the lid

reusable is nice. I really hope Santa brings some glass petris this year. i won't hold my breath tho.

Happy New Year, everyone!!!  Special thanks to Pasty for this incredibly useful tek. My 23 qt PC holds 16 glad mini's (8 double-stacked) with the tray high and dry on top of a metal colander.

I wouldn't mind trying my hand at pouring proper plates except that it seems kinda wasteful. I don't want to toss a plate after one use.

Thanks again, PastyWhyte!

I left my mini rounds in the PC for a little over 24 hours until I was able to inoculate. I had a crap ton of condensation on the sides that did not come out when I flipped the container upside down. It is going to be very tricky to get a clear view of my growth.

What did I do wrong to get so much condensation? Was it from leaving them in the PC for 24+ hours? Please advise.

Leaving it in the PC to cool slowly is usually the best way to rid condensation. Also, as I think tek may include, bringing the PC up to a boil slowly will help.

As some have advised me, you can flick the outside of the round while it's upside down and open to force the condensation to drip out.

i disagree. removing no pours from the pc prevents more condensation from getting into pasty plates. and bringing the flame up slowly has not ever helped me with either presto PC i own. the trick is to make up your pasty plates a week before you need them. let them sit for a week and i guarantee there wont be any excess moisture in any of them by the time you use them with or without foil/paper towels on top.

Let them sit in your SAB for awhile pre sterile work. They will clear up.

Hi Guys, If i am using food colour would it be ok to use medium malt extract instead of light to make some MEA plates? I only ask because i have a bag of medium going spare.
Thanks.

Yes you can mix every agar recipe with food color, just the food coloring is gonna come out in different shades depending on how clear the agar media is.

Im running problems with using screwtop pp5s... Unopened no-pour plates get satellite mold colonies, anyone having the same problems? should I ditch the screwtops?

I drilled small holes on the lid and taped up with micropore 3x.. any solutions for my problem? thank you.

Screwtops are very safe if you just screw the lid all the way down and add a filter to the container, which is IMO (again, my opinion) what you should be doing for agar.

It doesn't add up that you got moldy plates using screwtops. Did you fuck with the lid in any way? Unscrewed it some with the intention of supplying GE? If this is the case, agar cultures don't need GE at all, the air in the plate is enough to support the colony, so you don't need to do that.

Why are you using screwtops for agar anyway? Snap-ons is where it's at for ergonomic reasons a.k.a. making your life easy pissy. But again, this is all just an opinion.

Oh, so that's the origin of the term? Good to know cos now that I know it all sounds gay and lame, won't be using it anymore.

I said 'easy pissy' though, cos pissing is easy yo!

I just flick the plates with condensation super hard and knock the condensation off. It doesn't fuck anything up.

what worked for me was removing agar plates from the pc once pressure reaches zero. Give it a try.

Somehow I didn't read that part. Idk, try adding more layers of mp tape. How big is your hole? The hole in the lid I mean. You only need a tiny hole.

maybe 1/8 inch.. I was thinking of buying new ones, and putting holes on the side walls of the container so I wouldnt have to use tissue and foil over the lid all the time.. (glad mini rounds here are expensive as fuck)

Or could it be the screwtop mechanism itself thats doing this? should it be sealed with parafilm? thank you for the quick response.

I had this problem kapatid.
Screw tops are good if lids height is about an inch and if thick. but upon swapping lids and multiple heatups
Some lids dont fit. Some are lose. Even snapon will eventually experience this specially if the plastic are thin. My temporary fix is cling wrap around the lid before pc.
Be also sure to clean the place for a better fix. Ive wipe my room with bleach which up my srate since i live in dirty metros.
This is a conversation with josex where i realized i should ditch the old one's:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24914985#24914985

I bet those lid are quite thin ive seen them.
I was planning to buy they but upon checkup and feel they wont last.

Look for sunnyware pp5 if you really want screw tops available here. they are sturdy even in mutiple runs.. i lov3 them for invitro fruit. :mushroom2:
Lids are clear, 1" in height And they are thick more bung for a buck. About $0.45 in the market.

Ive used them before for agar work and served me well for a year now they are not modified in anyway.
But I just switched 90ml sauce container for less space now.
