So I’m cutting a cap to print in my SAB. And I want to cut a clone out of the stem after that’s done printing so about 24 hours maybe less. Should I take the cap off and leave the stem behind untill I’m ready for it? Or should I cut the hole thing and just put the stem in a bag in the fridge untill I’m ready for it. Like I said about 24 hrs tops.

Ok for some reason I didn’t even realize I could obviously do a clone while printing... lol. So the only thing was I have to go out soon so I wanted to set up for my first print (4-6 hrs) and come back and do the rest. But fuck it I’ll just cut it later and do everything. Even if I do want to play the new COD. And bodhi I’m using your spore print tek. You’ve helped me along with this hobby more than you know.

Was wondering what kind of potato flakes are best for the mix. Might have been asked before but There’s a lot of pages to look through. Want to make sure I get the right kind.

If you have a coffee grinder, you can grind up the potatoe flakes into powder before using it. I find that it dissolves into the water better this way. A mortar and pestle also works.

Picked up all my supplies today for following this tek. Store was out of the glad mini rounds so instead I got the screw top mini rounds.
They appear to be the same kind used in Violet's Culturing Tech and I was just wondering about the hole in the lid.
According to Violet's posts, the lids do not need to be modified with a hole for gas exchange, and instead you just leave the lids only partially screwed on for both PC cycle and when using the dishes for myc growth. Apparently the partially screwed lid provides gas exchange while also sufficiently preventing contams getting into the dish.
Was just wondering about any thoughts on the partially screwed method being trustworthy before I start preparing everything?
*edit* Just read back a few pages and looks like several people are doing the same kind of unmodified/semi-loose lid with the glass mason jars.
Still wondering if anyone would recommend modified lids with holes over loose lids?

I'll be trying this tek with a different agar recipe but all the same really
Thanks!

Leaving them partially open in the PC (or having a hole) is just so they do not implode under pressure. Like this:

I do not think the agar plates require GE at all after inoculation.

Everything I've looked at, including this tek, seems to say some GE is needed. Why would it be any different from jars needing GE during colonization?

they have enough air space in them to let them colonize without ge with no issues. myc needs very little air and ge to colonize the small amount of agar per dish.
I'd screw those on tight once pc'd and during colonization. I use unmodified plastic lids screwed on tight durung for my no pours. love it.
no more foils and super easy.
just to be sure do not screw them on tight while pcing or the threads will warp and they can implode as said above.

Makes sense considering that most myc growth in the wild is done under piles of dirt, leaves and shit. Can't be too much air flowing in those conditions.

Depending on the thickness of the material used and construction, pp5 or other properly rated plastic, you can get away with no hole at all.
Mini rounds are thin plastic subject to caving in the first few cycles without a hole. After a while the lids dont seal tight; you can spin the top around while on the base. At that point you wouldnt even need a hole.
The plates above have no hole. I got them 3 for $1.88 @ big lots.

Thanks for the input, makes everything very clear.
For those that leave their lids just shy of fully screwed, why do you do that if unnecessary?
I got these PP5 generic mini rounds (even labeled as mini rounds) in a 6 pack for under $3 at walmart. They are in the section by the aluminum foil instead of the regular plastic containers section. Seems totally like the best way to go with not having to modify the lid, micropore tape it up, paper towel and foil and all that...

Ive never used anything but mini rounds. Might try the screw on lids though. I picked up a plate the other day..lid came off..rolled it all on the floor. Dont want that to happen again.

Thanks Herren I’ll look into doing that once I get started. I already have a coffee grinder so I will be set on that. Just have to get all the other material. What is better Karo or Honey? I don’t ever use Karo so I feel it might be a waste, but I love honey and would use it for food stuff as well. Is it okay to use the honey I buy for both myco Work and food stuff or should I have separate honey? I don’t think it would matter much after a PC run just better to be safe and ask.

I haven't read all 300 pages so maybe it's already been covered, but I'm sharing it in case this hasn't. Some prescription medicine bottles that look like they might make nice slants are PP5.
