it's often made me wonder why that's even in the tek. I get that sugars are the bee's knees but I fell like it's just one more thing to think about

All good to know. I will use it when i remember but good to know i dont have to.
Here are 2 plates i tossed today from my very first run. I started 8 from ms same strain. These were the worst of the 8 so they got tosses. See any major problems with them for my first time? Im sure i could have transfered off them but the others looked better.

I got that, but I've been feeling like it's taking too long. with added sugar should leap off be around the same time as a healthy grain jar shake? or is that an unrealistic expectation? transfers should take less time than germination. yet I had my culture just beginning to leap off when I had germination and about a quarter size of growth from the same day

Loads of reasons for slow leap off. We can only hope to cover the bases as best we can and toss what doesn't perform. Change media, adjust media richness, etc. If something gets slow and sluggish before more than a few P values then chuck it. If your master slants are weak after plating change media. Don't just roll with one strategy cause if it stops working you have no recourse.

Uhh it's because you're the man.
It's really hard for vegans to get food coloring and after starting I realized his. Anyone do pasty plates without food coloring.
I'm using powdered agar

Did my first plates ever with no food coloring. No problems so far. The color just makes the contams easier to see. I have since made them with color but no reason you have to.

Uh yes.. it's like $20 a pack. I deal with this shit everyday as I'm on a strict diet. I already have broken some rules in my life so when I can control it I do. go about your own choices man I don't bother you, it's very important to me.
Anyways, So I made up 30 plates last night and had a rough night so I didn't get to PC them. I have em all made up. Without food coloring it looked like over saturated mashed potatoes lol. Is it okay if I PC them now? Put em in my fridge that I use mostly for myc so they didn't sit out.

Here's some pics, my fridge runs real cold so that's probably why I can hold it on the side and it not move at all, or maybe that's how it's supposed to be? I know it can be kinda stiff but what do you all think.

Wish I knew more and didn't have to ask every time there's an issue. Thank you though anyone that can help me. Wanna PC these now
