Water level for plates? I have a box of 12 lids and a new rack ( one old one that looks not good lol ). Since these are plastic is there a specific height you fill the PC to? I have a 23qt presto. Couldnt find in the OP

Since agar plates do not need to be PC'ed as long as grain jars, you don't need to put as much water.

Okay I will answer here.

for pasty plates, if done correctly, how much water do you use for the race to 15psi and 45 mins at it? I know it says 3 quarts of water. Ill be using a layer of new jar lids and a new presto rack on top for the 23qt presto. I'm going to do 16 plates to start so any suggestions? Ive never done this before so this will be my first real shot at agar. I ordered prepoured before and they always contaminated. Also, do you use 2 layers or one layer of micropore tape?
I use the same 23qt Presto as you. I've never measured how many quarts of water I put. For a 45min PC cycle, it doesn't really use up that much water. I just fill it up to the level of my trivet. I don't use the trivet that came with the Presto 23qt, I use one from a Mirro 22qt PC i used to use. If you are using the one that came with your Presto you may need to find a way to raise it a little. I just measured the one i use, and it comes off the bottom of the PC about 1". More water won't hurt though, if its your first time, its better to err on the side of extra water, than to run dry and explode your PC. If you have a steamer rack like this then just slide it underneath your trivet to raise it. For my pastyplates, I've always used two layers of micropore tape. It seems to work fine. Pastywhyte says to use two layers if you plan on keeping the plates for a more than a few weeks, otherwise one layer will suffice.
As far as suggestions go, just make sure you follow the teks carefully. Pastyplate tek Bodhi's Pressure cooking instructions/tips If you haven't decided one an agar recipe yet, this works great. I used it exclusively for nearly a year with great results. Munchauzen's 1-2-3 Agar recipe

I should change that, I always do 2 layers now. One worked for me many times but 2 feels safer. Lots of times I add a third once the 2 have a few runs on em.

They look nice. If they are pp5, they'll work. Just leave the lids on loose while pc'ing or else they might cave in.

with screw tops a hole and filer are unnecessary, you do need to keep the lids a little loose though

Have only made these once and it came out well. Was making some more today to do transfers and got sidetracked. Realized after i put them in the pc i forgot to add the karo. Will they still work without the dextrose or do i need to make new ones in the morning?

it aids in germination but it is not necessary. as long as you aren't just putting agar and water together than you are fine. it needs some sort of nutrients but karo/honey is something I go without most of the time
