Thank you pasty! This tek got me into agar. Your tek led me to build half pint mason jars with plastic lids drilled with SFD's glued down with RTV. I will never forget my first experiments with my tang orange agar.

Thank you very much for this! Been reading up a lot on agar and this makes it feel a lot less intimidating.

These are the correct containers right? If not can someone link me to the correct ones or if there has been an update on what rounds to use. They do say pp5 but they're so goddamn thin. Thanks!!

They were on sale for like $2 so I'll pick up more if these are right!

Awesome tek, thanks! I will be trying this out. couple questions;
-is it important to have a clear lid? (i found a similar product but the lid is opaque) I mean, it's nice to see whats going on in there easily, but other than that.
-This question is just about agar in general. Why do we agar -> agar -> agar -> spawn? Is the repetition purely in order to make sure there is nothing else living in the sample? Or is it somehow related to the end product, i.e. highly rhizomorphic, good fruiting, etc.?
-------------------- Great teks here. And here. Fortunately, Iβm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, uh, limber

We use agar to ensure a clean culture, to get clean clones and to isolate pure strains. For your novice grower an isolate is perhaps not worth the time and effort to obtain. A clean ms culture from most of the well domesticated varieties will deliver good results. Cloning can give you some good consistency as well later on. Once you have been growing for some time isolates might be something you want to put the effort into doing.
Many people do a few transfers from ms to simply cut down the number of competing genetics, which usually results in a better grow. But clean culture is clean culture.

Clean cultures aren't obtained using materials that leech chemicals into your agar, IE hot tupperware.
I doubt your rubbermaid rounds are an exception.
"Study: Most Plastics Leach Hormone-Like Chemicals."
http://www.npr.org/2011/03/02/134196209/study-most-plastics-leach-hormone-like-chemicals
"As scientists become more aware of the chemicals that leech out of plastics and make their way into our bodies, they are uncovering a variety of health issues that result. This includes cancer, reproductive issues, immune system suppression and problems with childhood development just to name a few."
http://www.onegreenplanet.org/environment/plastic-toxins-are-leaching-into-your-food-and-water/
Just google it there are hundred of links.
I'd recommend using the same procedure with a small mason jar if you can't afford petri dishes.

Thank you teknix. Apparently I have yet to ever obtain a clean culture. Disregard every success I have ever appeared to have
Please post pics of any successful grows you have ever had teknix. Would love to see your mastery in action.

That would be off topic, but I would be happy to PM you my success mating mating monokaryotes to dikaryotes if you're really interested.
The point previously made and the topic at hand is pressure cooking agar in plastic containers.

No post it here. No need to hide behind a pm. I would like to see results in the form of fruits, not simple culture work. Fruits are the proof in the pudding for a cultivation board. Let's see your fruits. I don't grow much but over the course of 100's of grows I haven't seen much to convince me that my methods are poor.
If you really wanted to be on topic you should post specific examples of the detriment to the specific species we are growing as well. I highly doubt that the same issues that affect mammals would be the same for fungi. Would love some reading on that.

Well, you would need a spectrometer to determine whether or not the mycelium uptake the chemicals leeched from the plastic.
You can look in my pics if u want.

Please stay on topic, you are a mod after all.
It's my right to challenge your tek, and I choose to do so, that's what makes shroomery great!

Yes I'm a mod. Meaning I decide what's on topic in my thread. Have a point to your challenge. You said I haven't gotten a clean culture. Prove it.

Don't know what you're going on about man. Move along. Grown ups that use plastic containers for their agar are trying to have a discussion about our successful grows using these methods here

He has been trying to trash me since the first page of this thread. This is nothing new. It's because I didn't want to prove his oven brf tray bullshit tek for him. He came up with a tek that wouldn't work and got butthurt when I refused to do the work to prove it for him. So he comes along to try and discredit my methods every few years.

The point is easily found on google, which is that plastics leech harmful chemicals when exposed to excessive heat, excessive heat being as low as boiling water.
I'm done arguing with you anyways, I just wanted to make sure people are aware of any possible health hazards involved in using your tek.
And the misdirection and shifting of the topic to me is a fallacy, and not very good way to debate. It's even boarder line ad hominem, when I provide evidence of others research, so my integrity or techniques are not the question.
