Correct me if I'm wrong but you only need one source of nutrients for agar. Grain soak water is one, potato flakes is another. You don't need them in combination. There are tons of recipes on here for quantities

So what would be the next step? Can I use anything from my grains to add to these agar containers?

I'm more or less looking for some help on how to start using the agar for growth. Can I just use healthy myc from my rye grains?

Yeah take a spoon or tweezers or something you can flame red hot and in the SAB make a transfer of a nice looking grain to an agar dish as carefully as possible

Ok perfect. Is it ok if the grain is transferred as well? Do you guys normally use petri dishes instead of the glade mini rounds?

If using Petri dishes you would be stepping into the world of pour agar, where the agar is prepared and sterilized in one media vessel and transferred to the Petri dishes.

I almost exclusively use pastyplates, sometimes I use a petri dish for better visability before going to grains. but then it's right back to no pour for a tiger drop

Get mini rounds to start off with and then you can do what Germs suggested with a piece of grain

the betty crocker equivalent with the red tops seem to hold better, most of my mini rounds are loose now but the bc are holding fast, all mine have melted holes in the side (soldering iron) with micropore, I may do the mini rounds on top next time to see if it will expand contract the same rate as the bottom, most of my agar is now done on 2 oz shot cups with some tight ass lids from dollar tree, reusing them too, 2 kinds are sold there, dont get the one with the really clear lid, get this one

What kind of texture should the agar be after mixing? I'm using premixed agar.

Anywhere from 9 to 15. My pc is digital and only does 9,so I add time to allow for that.
Non digital, try for fifteen. Some use 20
