never heard of that material but if its very visible and encourages any residual condensation to slide off of it i'm a huge fan! that's the main reason i like working with the larger, more transparent zip rounds.
i really need to have good visibility right now because i have a lot to learn with agar. where can i find that material? a post office or something?
and as far as sealing it to the round i'd use RTV silicone, but that's the avoid-equipment maintenance-for-as-long-as-possible part of me talking again. i'm 99% sure i saw some clear RTV silicone for like $1.50 more than the regular red shit i have, and this would probably work best in case it gets a little messy.

Visibility is definitely an issue with no pour agar. That's why I only use it for germinating spores and starting clones. I prefer to use pre sterilised dishes for later transfers and isolation.

They actually make food containers out of it too but I've never seen any in a store.
Polycarbonate petri dishes
It's as clear as polystyrene but the melting is much higher, around 300F.

I wouldn't try no pour in a petri even if you could PC it. They are just to shallow and would likely boil over making a huge mess. I have found PC able petris but they are super expensive.

Melting point and glass point are way different. PP5 doesn't have a high melt temp but its glass temp is one of the few for plastics that's above PC temp so it stays rigid

You should be able to.
IMO no pour dishes are a waste of PC space. I PC the bottle of agar and steam sterilize the dishes at the same time so I can use the rest of the PC space for spawn.

Yeah, I just lost one to a fire not too long ago. I learned my lesson though; Never forget to clean out grease under the burners

Some good discussion here. I would like to add my perspective on a few of them

I agree that visibility can be an issue. The fact that you need to look through the sides is a tricky one. But when you color the agar, the contams really stand out. Fact is I do this with my pour agar as well. Condensation can also be an issue but, its not a problem if you bring the pressure up slow, and cool the PC even slower. The mini rounds are a lot easier to see through the sides than every jar and other container I have tried. Personally I almost never have more condensation in one of these than I do in a pour petri.
There is zero condensation in these and it is quite easy to see what is going on. As for identifying sectors, I do it the same as I would with a pour petri, look at the bottom while having the light come from behind. They show up just as easy.

I would never PC my agar or LC media as long as I would grain spawn, especially if there is dextrose or Karo or honey in the mix. I do recognize that peoples preferences are just that and if you prefer pour agar, then I would never try to dissuade anyone from one or the other. The point is that your using agar. Period.

A few drops. Just enough to change the color of your agar.

i just picked up this large shallow glass ziploc container from dillon's and i wanted to know if its safe to pc it. all it says about the plastic is that its microwave safe, don't use directly on stovetop, dishwasher top rack, BPA-free, etc. obviously i'd have to put some holes in and attach a filter, but i wanted to make sure it's pc-safe before i put holes in the lid so i can return it if it's not usable. its called "ziploc versaglass"
