more like 8 or more transfers usually, really depends on how many spores you start with on the plate and how small of a wedge you take

thats an extremely naive comment. besides, how would you inoculate those grains without agar? and no spores is not a viable answer.
agar inoculates all. agar cleanses cultures. agar allows for crossing of species. agar expands to more agar.
above all else, agar is the best guarantee for clean spawn.

1. I fully answered your question with a very thorough and polite response. 2. You replied to my answer with a naive comment. 3. I continued to thoroughly explain why it was naive. 4. You got butthurt.
I'll leave it at that, because this tek doesn't deserve bickering and whining clogging it up.

There's a difference in being 'butthurt' and being frustrated with condescending answers that don't really help.
Thanks Pasty for the tek at least now I'm on board with some agar.

You don't see the big picture.
Agar is about finding contamination before it ruins your entire grow.
You can swipe spores on agar and watch for clean growth before you use the culture to inoculate grains.
We call it the 'Tiger Drop.' It's in my sig.
Or search 'tiger drop'
The small scale of agar creates a tiny area to grow and search for problems in your inoculate before they become huge problems that ruin your bulk substrate.

^ yep, part of the reason I am starting agar right there. Instead of one syringe inoculations 10 jars I'm hoping to spread my spores out much more by dropping on agar first
Ball is gonna start rolling tomorrow

Hahaha. Commercial scale edible shroom farm in here uses these liquor bottles

I think they use it to have a clean culture and not for isolating

Damn fellas, I just realized that this thread turned 2 years old yesterday
121K views and 3600 posts means a lot of people been doing agar Thank you to all the members who have tried this and worked with it. You all have been great
I have just posted my new take on the Tiger Drop with this tek, IMO its a great way to turn one of these plates into a massive amount of inoculate and really colonize a master or large jar quick. Hope you all enjoy.

I kinda fucked up but the majority of the plates mustve been jostled when I picked it up and set it down on the stove, most of them mustve been in the PC at an angle so the liquid isn't on the bottom but more like at a 45 degree angle in the corner.
I inoculated them anyway, none of the agar was at the rim luckily so it should still work out I think. Worst case senario is I just wasted like 1cc and a few grams of agar, sugar, and potato flakes lol.
Lesson learned though make sure they're seated properly

I've given up on trying to seat them properly, they always seem to topple over for me. I suggest taking them out when the pressure drops and either let them cool on a counter or in an SAB if you're cautious.
