So I am going on 6 days now with no visible growth on my pasty plates. I didn't add food coloring to them, so im not actually 100% sure there isn't any growth. I was just wondering what is the average time for first growth with this tek.

I've waited almost two weeks before, depends. Doesn't really mater what tek you use imo

2 weeks or more is not unheard of at all for spore germination.
I make my agar on the softer side for spore germination:
500 ml water 7.5 grams agar 10 grams malt extract

That's what I figured,
My next question would have been why he didn't just add water to his dry spore drop. It was more to pick TEG's brain about his procedure since I don't know how he does his agar yet

Softer agar has more moisture. More moisture better hydrates the spores for germination. No rocket science there.
I find making my agar softer is a hell of a lot easier, and more fool proof, than trying to add a drop of water on top of my spores after I've plated them. To do that I'd have to have sterile water and my plate would have to be open twice as long to place the water on the plate. No bueno.

With spores, I use a wet, sterilized q tip. I swipe the print once and swipe a dozen plus receiving plates with one q tip. I have germination with in 7-10 days consistently.

You have no issues introducing moisture to your spore print? I save mine after use. I wouldn't want to fold up a print with moisture, that's asking for trouble, no?

Honestly, I don't know. Haven't gone back to the print. When I get back to it, I'll let you know. My theory was since I swipe from the inside out in a straight line, that it would give me several spots on the print to swipe without swiping the same area twice.

Do you fold your prints over? Because I do after using them and I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable with that

Maybe not but like I said. I will know when I go back to using them again. To be honest, I like spore swabs more than prints and will most likely only use the spore prints that I receive, for getting the initial culture on agar.

This is 8 days and I'm not sure if there is any growth on this? The new plates I did up last night I did with red food coloring. These have been siting on a shelf at about 74-77degrees. How long should I wait before giving up on them?
These plates were done using this tek.

Looks like bacteria. Tilt it til you reflect light off the surface, you'll see the light film over the surface.

I just had spores that took 14 days to show visible growth. Another set showed growth after 2 days. It depends on how fresh your spores are as far as I can tell. If they're really old they may need to be rehydrated. Making your plates a bit on the moist side can help with this.
I'm assuming this was from spores. If it was a transfer and you haven't seen growth by now I wouldn't expect to see any.

This was from a syringe of Panamas i got about 3 months ago, its been sitting in my fridge since it arrived.
These first plates were done in a broken PC, so they were never fully sterilized, i just wanted to see if anything would happen. But I finally upgraded my PC and got the food coloring and nocc'ed them up in a SAB. The first were done open air.
Also question with this tek. Can you see through the finished product? Mine is always super cloudy and looks like there is too much potato flakes in it. Or is that how its supposed to be?
