Ah ok duh. No need to worry about contams because of the pc cycle. I've been dumping that condensation out this whole time. Haha. Thanks guys. Worth the 5 minutes for it to cool off.

Yep, you're still making basically a jello type dessert, just not for humans.

The actual agar itself. Kind of a noob here. I recently did my first grow on BRF cakes and don't have access to buying syringes or spore prints online and I want to be able to do more grows....So I'm looking to make some prints and culturing on agar.
Some very basic questions if y'all don't mind. What type of agar is good to use/buy for a beginner? And do I pretty just follow the directions on the packaging and then sterilize in a PC?
Thank you.

The easiest/most turn key agar recipe is going to be pre made agar from a myco supply website. Other than that there are several kinds of agar media formulas to select from.

Just buy the telephone brand that inocuole posted a pic of and follow the directions of the recipe in this thread
EDIT: or order from a sponsor

I'm finding this recipe with the potato flakes the least sketchy and most accessible. Not that it's really sketchy at all to gather ingredients for most other recipes but it can be tougher than going places you would probably go anyway and getting it with your groceries.

The first agar I ever found was at whole foods, pretty popular in the US I believe.

Be sure to put two pieces of tape over the hole.
So apply the tape before PCing the plates? I thought that would undo the glue.
Do the plates need to be wrapped in foil? I didn't wrap in foil and just let it cool down then after wiped with the paper cloth (which was wrapped in foil).

All that is stated in the OP.
Put layer of micropore tape, add paper towel (optional), wrap in foil, then PC. You wrap the plates in foil to avoid the tape getting wet. If the tape gets wet during the PC, you might as well start over.

IMO I'd just use an actual/better filter than micropore tape for GE personally.

The hole is more so the plate doesn't cave in on itself during the PC cycle. Not so much ge

Actually, without a filter, the lids will sometimes pop off as pressure builds and sometimes the walls cave in during cool down. Atleast that is what I have observed numerous times IMO.

Also, the filter may help invitro pins grow. I never experienced pasty plate invitro mushrooms until I started using a filter on them.

It's a lot easier to do it as you go, step by step it's really easy when you have everything infront of you

Just a quick question. Can the double layer micro pore tape be substituted with polyfill? Thanks.
