Mycorhyzal is the relationship with the trees. Makes em nearly impossible to cultivate.

I was trying to clean up a morel culture I took to agar and I guess its hard to get a clean start. They say to use spores and not the tissue to clone. I took spores off my dehydrator and still couldn't get a clean culture.
So when I do get a clean agar dish with morel on it. I wanted to make plugs and try an plug em into tree roots where I know morels would grow? Might work?

Hard to say. Try it and let us know how it goes. I don't know as much as I would like about mycorhyzal interactions but its worth a try.

I read about mycorrhizae and their relationship with plants and they are helping whatever plant they attach to help gain nutrients.
The mycorrhizae will take over and kill other organisms so its host plant will have the nutrients it needs to survive.
I'm wondering if the morels are a result of the trees needing something more that the morel can provide so the mycorrhizae produces the fruit bodies?
I will definitely keep you posted on my results if I get any. Should take awhile tho

Oregon blows up with morel because of all the logging.
Laotians travel to Bend, Or for mushroom camp every fall! All the way from Laos to fight over all the different mushrooms growing. Lol

I think he's saying that because of their association with wildfires and logging areas. I always thought it was the disturbed earth combined with a symbiosis with a root system.
They do grow wild in the forests where there are no burns or logging but for some reason the devastation really makes them pop.

When I read that it grows really well after forest fires and old apple orchards I thought it had somerhing to do with the soil, would it be more acidic? Higher levels of some ph balance, more light, I dont think just adding any root system would help.
