thats strange. yeah if i stack them, the agar is tilted. so putting the pan lid over them will allow me to keep everything nice and level.

i leave these plates in the pc overnight all the time. it hasn't caused me any issues.
Allowing them to sit in there overnight isn't what fucked me, it's the fact they we allowed to sit sideways as they cooled. Now I've got 8 slanted PastyPlates, but they should still be usable. I've already solved my problem though.
Instead of putting down jar rings on top of my PC's rack thing, I put down the ring lids first, and then set the rack on top. This gives me a perfectly level place to put my jars, and stops any water from directly touching them.

RPW said: Well the OP said to leave them in there, and I wanted to follow the post exactly since this is my first time preparing agar. My jars did end up sideways this time though. I either need to put some sort of rack in my PC, or let the jars cool outside the PC on a flat surface. With the latter, I'm worried about condensation forming inside the plates, and also exposing them to open air. Does the 2 layers of 3m tape really allow me to just leave them sitting out and not worry?
You're also supposed to have a paper towel and foil on there if you followed the tek so, yeah that combined with the micropore is plenty to keep shit from getting in there. Don't worry about condensation, that's not even an issue. And yeah leaving stuff in the PC is totally optional. I take out everything after pressure hits 0 and I can get the lid off without burning the shit out of myself. Sometimes certain methods of stacking the dishes inside the PC will keep the bottom one from floating up and going sideways, or you can adjust your water level. You're not using the circular rack that comes with most PCs already?

They do have a paper towel and foil on them as well, I've currently got them in a small storage tote in my fridge. And yes, I am using the circular rack. Beforehand, I was putting rings on it to further elevate the mini rounds though, but from now on I'm using the rings to elevate the rack, and putting the jars directly on the rack.

yeah used a clear lid to one of my pots. made sure the handle was metal. put that over the plates and they sit nice and even all cycle.

You might could get away with removing the foil, leaving the paper towel, and microwaving them so they settle back to the bottom.

Well obviously it's not the leaving of the plates overnight that's a problem, it's doing it when they might be sideways. I leave mine if they're the last batch of the day.
This tek in general is forgiving as hell though.

What... are you talking about..? Flip? What? PC upside down? So that the liquid.. goes out the hole in the top and all up in the seal of the lid?
Read the first post again.

Careful that's not 100% approved, but a few of us have had it work without issue. Would recommend staggering it a little so it doesn't get too hot. 5-6 seconds at a time is probably good.

people have discussed flipping over the plates to reduce condensation. the videos also show the plates upside down in the SAB. So im wondering when you turn them upside down? sorry if im being confusing...

You never have to turn them upside down. Munch just likes to inoculate his like that. I never have. I've also never had a problem with condensation not going away. These are just overstated issues for the most part.
If you're going to turn them upside down to inoculate, you do it just then, when you inoculate, otherwise it would be a liquid and that would be terrible.

It should work fine, worse case scenario you can use almost any recipe and prepare it the same way and see what happens.

Peace.

yeah the first time i tried it, the pressure tilted a few plates so they were at angles. the plates actually colonized quickly and were easy for a tiger drop. the lid idea solved that problem. 8 fit in the bottom tier of my pc. ill lay down the 2nd circular insert on top of that and put 8 more. then put the clear lid on top which keeps the 2nd level plates even. the bottom plates are held in place by the circular insert.

Just dropped some spores on my first plates, not sure how my sterile technique was though. It seemed like I had the plates open too long, but hopefully I'll get some decent growth and be able to transfer away from contams.
