Yeah, not all of them did it. These I used lighter foil as it was easier to wrap. I could see where it sucked the foil into the quarter inch hole.

I went out and bought the tape just in case, I also am thinking about buying.. man it escapes me. the cotton stuff that you can use for jars that are incubating... i'm wondering if the microspore tape could be used for that too, to allow air exchange but help kee pout contaminants?

I use micro pore tape. It's easy to work with. Just slap two layers on like in the tek.
I did use poly fill in the beginning and it worked well. It was just a pain to get it stuffed good and tight vs. just using micro pore tape.

I've only seen the sides of those mini rounds suck in like that when pulled out of the pc too early. Let them sit in the pc for atleast 30 minutes after pressure has dropped.

I let them sit in there for a day. Also let the pressure lower naturally.
The rest were great. Minimal condensation and a nice glassy surface.

thanks for the info.. I'm thinking i'm going to have to get a good look at my plates on monday. sterilize my bathroom and get out the sab and take off the lid to see whats going on. Do you think that having the lid off for about 20 seconds is too long in the sab?

As long as you've had the air or fan in the house off for a while, and you are deliberate in your movements you could be fine. The stiller the air around you, the stiller the air in the SAB. And try not to have anything hovering over the dish that hasn't been flamed or sterilized.
The shorter the better though, for me at least.

That's fucked up. I've got pasty plates that have been run over 100 times and aside from the lids not fitting quite as snug. I've never seen one get damaged in any way during the PC cycle. I only used paper towel once.

Its a wonder that's never happened to me. I always immediately remove my agar and grain jars from the PC once it's dropped pressure. The worst thing that seems to happen to mine are a few of the lids get flimsy and are real easy to come off

Do you have them sitting in the water while you PC them? I use an old aluminum pie plate with holes drilled in it to elevate mine well above the water line.

I use a sheet of aluminum foil at the bottom of my pc so most of the water lies under it. Which I guess is similar to your setup, muda, in that they never really sit in the water.

Thats probably it. The water was just over the rack. They weren't bobbing around or anything though.

This.
Though I still use poly-fill.

Agreed. They don't leave much condensation and they stack well.

I leave my un-inoculated plates in a 27qt tub at room temperature. I take the foil off as soon as they come out of the PC. After a few days any condensation clears up. I've left plates sitting like that for months without them drying out or getting contaminated.
