Tag,
Yeah, slurries are super awesome for colonizing crap. I have 5 more BRF cakes going now solely to inoculate my grains.
Pasty,
For sure once the grains are good they'll G2G like any other, but it takes so long for that to happen that I lose patience and do other stuff like Muda. I usually wait til the myc has hit maybe 25% and then I shake it up and it recovers and explodes the growth like anything else.
I'll keep an eye on my last 3 I did because I cut up whole plates into 3 or 4 chunks each. Last time I used 1 plate for a few quarts which obviously will make it slower.

Bigger wedges and more of them. Shake em good and you see faster growth. I fully colonized a half gallon in 5 days with tiger drop. Thats as fast as LC. Problem is that there is what I consider to be bad info regarding shaking of wedges in master jars. I find way better growth when you get that wedge all over the place. Try to get it to break up in the jar if you can. It might take an extra day to to recover but when it does you have growth all over the place.

So THIS is what happened!
I had given my jars a good shake after inoculating with A2G and I noticed big myc growth in a few places and spotted myc growth in others. I figured this was the culprit but it's nice to have good proof.
I see what you mean but I still think regardless LI would be a bit faster depending on strain. I'm colonizing APE and PC Puerto Rico which I've noticed slow colonization from A2G (compared to KSSS, GT and B+) but the few PC Puerto Rico's I've eaten have been miles above in potency and I've heard the same about APE potency (Correlation?). I'm going off Eat's 6 days of LI colonization and my 10 day pint jar speeds.

For me speed isn't a big deal. I make new jars so often that I have a steady supply of colonised shit to fruit. For me the big benefit of making LI is rapid expansion. Lately I have been inoculating 14 jars with each plate. If I were still doing A2G I would only be inoculating 2 or 3.

So do you go straight to your spawn jars with LI or do a master, check if it's clean and G2G? Or then knock up LI in all jars?
Wondering if your syringe takes the place of a master jar.

Pastywhyte said: A2G can be fast if you know how. Cut a big wedge to a pint of millet or WBS. Shake well, this allows for lots of spots for the myc to rub off onto the grain. In 4-5 days it should be at least 30-40% colonized. Shake it and its done 3 days later. G2G that pint to 6 quarts and then a week or two later its ready to spawn. Not quite as fast as LI but safer if your not confident with your sterile tek.
Also G2G might seem slow off the bat but if you have the time it can be expanded exponentially.
1 quart to 10 10 to 100 100 to 1000 1000 to 10000
If it takes a week for each G2G expansion and two to start the inital master thats 10000 quarts in 5 weeks. You would need a lot tubs to warrant that much spawn.
That is hilarious that we are now talking about g2g being slow. This site is producing some ground breaking stuff!!!! Keep it up its amazing to part of it.

The agar confirms it is clean before it is made into LI. So yeah, the LI becomes the master.

Yeah, it does defeat the need for a grain master. I'm sure you could G2G your LI knocked jars but it's much better practice to just spawn/fruit them for less shakes.

I was hasty and bought the replacement blade for $5 before I really read into problems with the drill method of making LI. Now I'm gonna have to hunt for a metal-drive blender at 2nd hand stores lol.
Man, I gave some guy shit for giving up G2G for LI and now I'm really excited to try it. Just started a few more plates today so I should have something to blend up soon!

Just get a blender too. It doesn't hurt to have an extra blade assembly. I have a couple and I just ordered 4 more.

I'm a little confused on this recipe. I only need to add all that stuff to a half cup of water? And it'll make 8 plate? Assuming I weigh out the 2.5 grams of agar. If I used powdered agar it's still 2.5 grams? Just making sure.

Yah I use 10 grams of powdered agar for 500 ml so 2.5 for 1 cup is what you want.

Nooo 2.5 for a half cup, Muda.
Just follow the exact tek and you won't have problems, it really can't be phrased any better than the OP.

Ok. I was just making sure if it was a bar of agar or the powdered form that the weight didn't matter. And that all I need is a half cup.. seems like a bunch a stuff to mix up with only half a cup. Am I going to ruin my pot? Does that seaweed asian agar stuff work? I'm sorry. I have no idea what agar is. Haha I just know what I'm gonna do when I have it. Actually about to leave soon to do such.

Dude, the tek tells you everything you need to know. Why would it ruin your pot? Are you just thinking of every possible negative scenario?
The original post says get a brand of agar agar without sugar added. Asian markets almost always have telephone brand agar which is perfect. Any food grade agar without sugar added is fine.
