Remind me to not trade prints with ya
OP the standard is for the most part to use foil. Most vendors use foil as do most people who print and trade in the marketplace.

Anything more complex than those is just asking for trouble.

packing tape comes clear in many sizes.
the imaginative, would lay slides in patterns or sheets . or , one could show some artistic sense, and select caps slide sized.
generally speaking, the slide is a standard for bio samples.
for those who insist size counts, wide mouthed lids , sterilized use the white side, and sandwich them, then cover in packing tape.
i often, just put them on sterile plastic. in they form, they can be stockpiled and hidden, if some very creative places.
back in the 90's we had a double canvas painting in the living room, that was lined with spore prints on thin plastic.

well then just throw em on foil and be happy. the OP didnt stipulate it was required to be free and instant.
the question, seemed to indicate serious storage.
personally, i like a durable, clean long lasting print, thats easily concealed.
professionalism, implies a certain degree of effort.

tinfoil works fine and does the job just as well. taking steps like that is just... unnecessary
OP you should be using a still air box or glove box to further promote sterile working conditions. when you (or someone else) go[es] to utilize the spores for growing methods, you will want to work with agar to germinate them anyway.

thats your response...... if you consider tinfoil , the most professional thing. it certainly defines your professionalism.
odds are, the OP was aware of the obvious. sometimes , serious growers need more.

*shakes head*
Never said they were. OP asked how vendors do their prints, I told him Sometimes it is possible to answer a question without making a big thing outta it.
Fact, many people use foil to print. Fact, there are ways to print on foil that is quite clean, even sterile is not out of reach. I sterilize the foil I use to print before I print it and only because I like to cut it too shape before printing. Otherwise that's not even necessary. Even though I would never consider my prints to be sterile, as I fruit in open air, I have yet to get a contam on a plate inoculated from a print I took myself. Regardless, I have used agar to successfully clean up many a filthy print that I have received from members here and sponsors alike. Its pretty much the whole point to agar. Bio Handling has nothing to do with it at that point. Ever clone from the wild or work with a wild print? Someone had to at some point or none of us would be growing shit.

THE biggest issue with this hobby is cost prohibitive. You come here preaching about bio-handling etc (Not just on this thread) and it only equates to higher costs, or overly complicated methods.
Anne: Individuals have claimed to have brought back prints that were over a decade old from foil. How many decades more does a slide last? WHY exactly IS a slide better than a sterile piece of foil?
Tin foil works great for long term. Conditions that the prints are kept in are probably more important than the material the print is on.

fractaldill, you can also use wide mouth 1/4 pint mason jars to take a spore print. Just take a spore print as usual inside the cleaned jar and seal the jar with it's lid after the print has been taken.

No, a two shroom-rated symbol of arrogance is always going to get the final word. We're all getting used to that.
I suggest you allow those who wish to use foil to do so since it's an excellent printing medium which can be folded and mailed easily. I like slides, glass plates, foil and wax paper, but won't declare any to be the last word.
Wax paper is especially good for those making syringes because the spores don't stick to the paper. Just be careful though because when you pick up the print all the spores will slide off if you tilt it before folding. RR

ok , so now ya suggest anyone not meeting your cheap standard, is somehow invalid? 5$ box of slides, breaks the bank. thats more of a comment about you than it is about modern bio tech. thank gawd were not talking something really expensive, like oragami.
the whole biotech industry, is gonna have to reduce its budget by 99.99987% now for your approval.
frank, sterile is defined as " less than one living thing" even if you got medical grade foil ( and ya dont) any exposure to your grow hut, would dash any sterile hopes.
prove a roll of foil is sterile frank. you can claim is close, , but its not definition sterile. fast and loose on facts, is your cornerstone though. that, and ignoring those that call out your outdated and questionably clean( by your admission) grows.
fact is there are many options for biohandling. if your informed, and have 5$ you have options for more than foil.
as for field samples, last university field trip i was on, they brought culture and sample bottles, not foil.
use foil if ya like, but to reduce the world to foil, really limits all the possibilities with modern equipment.

as for field samples, last university field trip i was on, they brought culture and sample bottles, not foil.
What would they do with foil in the field? We're talking spore printing here, not culture samples. Foil may not be 100% sterile, but it's close, and unless you've grown your mushrooms in a sterile environment and can transfer it to your print medium without leaving sterile conditions, which is completely impractical for a hobbyist grower, then whether your print medium is sterile really makes no difference.
