contams risk?
    #19204485 - 11/29/13 11:16 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I've been working on the road for a month now and living out of a motel. Well I'm home for thanksgiving and I was going to start my wbs prep but I'm hesitant.

I think I have picked up scabies from the shitty motel (fuckin gross I know).

Is there any contam risks working with mushies while you have these little fuckers? I wouldn't think so but what you guys think?

Those sarcoptiformes are parasites that include an animal as host. I can't see no chance of originating a contamination in your mushrooms. That doesn't mean you can't contaminate something else ...

Just one detail, you're a mean person if you give those mushrooms to anyone else prior to drying. Those mites can be transported from you to your mushrooms. Handle them with care and let them dry at least 36 hours before sharing.

Ewww, Scabiesss..I hate that shit. Got it once, likely from a friend's house which was definitely not the best/cleanest of environments. That combined with the number of people and dogs that "lived" there..

Anyways, I didn't have insurance at the time to go to the doctor and get permethrin cream, so I ended up using a pesticide that contained permethrin on myself (along with all my bed sheets and everything as well). Actually worked quite well!

I'm sure it's not the healthiest thing to do, but man when ya get scabies like that, you will pretty much do ANYthing to get rid of the itch. I was even taking scalding hot baths simply because the burning water seemed to help temporarily! Talk about miserable.

I haven't even knocked up my jars or prepared my grains yet. It will be a while before they are ready to eat lol. I'm sure I'll be rid of them by then

What is this pesticide called and where did you get it?
I'm gonna see a doc to get the cream but I think I might use that stuff on my clothes if it works well

Magick, you don't get scabies from dogs or from being in a dirty environment. It's usually from direct skin to skin with someone who has them and less commonly by contact with objects used by someone with the more severe "crusted" form.

True but I'm pretty sure you can get it from dogs. Although I think they call it mange.

Well, technically you can but the species that live on dogs and the kind you can get while swimming can't reproduce on humans. They sometimes cause allergic reaction but they die off completely in a matter of hours.

I wouldn't worry. You'll be keeping the jars sterile anyway for the mean time.

I wasn't saying necessarily that I got it from the dog, just that it was the kind of place which would harbor some nasty shit like scabies, and other similar nasties.

And um, I don't remember the specific brand, but they make several bug sprays/insecticides with permethrin. Just gotta look around and look at the labels. But yeah, the key is to make sure you don't just treat yourself, but everything else that could harbor the mite, so get on that :p
