Am I ready for my first time? Generic Post

I've been reading on and off for 1-2 months, and I think I understand how mushrooms work enough to actually grow my first attempt.
Edit: I have decided that when I casually do decide to start my first grow, I would rather also know how to do WBS and Monotub (for purposes of using only ideal situations as a reason for growing mushrooms, and to biodegrade my garbage).
Here would be my attempt for psilocybe cubensis, with the BRF Cake Tek
1. Make about 10 cakes; Vermiculite in bowl, then almost the same amount of water, then add about half the BRF in as the Vermiculite and mix until moistened but not overflowing with water.
2. Wipe top of jar for moisture. Layer the jar with an inch of dry verm at the top, and seal with a 4 holed jar lid. Cover with 2 layers of tin foil.
3. Fetch pressure cooker, put 1-2 layers of jar lids or something at bottom to place jars on. This prepares the steam to do the sterilization, not so much the water, thus maintaining better moisture content. (Does putting foil above first layer of jar lids stop water from boiling up while not repressing upper steam? Or does it repress the steam? It was in mushroomvideos btw. )
4. PC for 90 70 minutes on 15PSI with jars slightly opened to allow pressure'd gas escape, thus maintaining moisture content
5. After cooled, re-tighten jar lids and take top layer of tin foil off.
6. Go to the section of house with least air movement; this is away from frequent human/animal movement grounds, and towards an edge/corner of a room, ideally the end of an elongated 1-way current room. After not moving for 30 seconds, having stirred the still air, inoculate through tinfoil. Flame needle between each jar. Body movements should only be enough to do the job.
7. Moving jars only when necessary (to prevent contamination from breaking through verm), place jars where it will receive ambient light in about 75 degree environment, near fridge/computer heater if possible to quicken mycelium growth. Preferably where it was inoculated.
8. Wait up to a week after jar is fully colonized, judging on the hyphal knots, rhizomorphic growth, and possibly primordia.
9. Birth the cake by carefully slamming jar with equal force straight downward on a flat surface, wash off dirty verm, Dunk cake for 15-24 hours under water.
10. After dunk, wave some water droplets off and dash dry verm on it.
11. Fruiting chamber is constructed with diagonal 1/4" breathing holes , 4 inches of strained moist perlite on the bottom, and cakes are placed on a foil platform above perlite. Spray cakes with mister after the dry verm has stuck after about half an hour. Close container and have a 12/12 timed ~6000K CFL light
12. Keep misting the dry verm when dry.
13. Fan about 2-3 times a day.
14. If it is fruiting, spray in between the fruits when possible
15. Harvest first flush
16. (Do I Dry and/or Heat shock cakes with a firebomb?) Dunk cakes for another 16 hours after some drying and replace in fruiting chamber.
17. Harvest 2nd-4th flush
18. Use the remaining cake to crumble up and put outside in a hole outside with a vermiculite outer layer, then crumbled cake, then a casing of 50/50 peat moss/vermiculite or something else, and wait for it to fruit.
Any pro tips? RR/confident input?
I like hearing a cultivator's affirmation that I will surely succeed my first BRF-tek
What exactly does Gypsum do aside from prevent sticking? Regarding WBS/monotub. Why does this crystal apparently increase yield by providing calcium/sulpher? Is Calcium/Sulpher suitably available elsewhere?
Any recommendations for a see-through pressure cooker I can buy so I can control more?
Can someone explain reasoning behind desirable hole locations on a monotub for using polyfill?
Can I use small amounts of random pasteurized garbage substrates such as used spoof dryer sheets/paper and expect it to generally work?
(Will edit in my hypothesis on WBS/Monotub. I am interested in reading good WBS/Monotub teks)

You can mist the cakes the whole time they are in the sgfc.. use a light mist. Sound like you have done your homework..just dont get lazy and cut corners

Great job reading! Here's a good tek.

You have the jist of it. Put some tinfoil on your jar lids while pc'ing. Take it off when done. Wait to nok up jars until they are completly cooled.

Sounds good so far. Take a look at the first link in my signature and have a read through there, leme know what you think. Post pictures along the way and there will be plenty of people able to help see you through to a good harvest.
If you're going to use a pressure cooker with the PF cakes you can reduce the time to 60M do 90M if you're steam sterilizing without the pressure. 90M under pressure won't hurt anything though.

That was the 2nd flush of my very first cakes! That was B+. Very pretty aint they?
OP, that's what they CAN look like.

Any tips? For instance, after I take them out of the pressure cooker to cool, should I leave them in the glovebox so that I can inoculate immediately after sterilization without as much risk for contamination?
10. make sure your fruiting chamber is exaactly to SGFC specifications, see the Rogerrabbit videos or that link in my signature
12. You can spray down the whole cakes, fruits too. It's too hard to avoid them with a fine mist and a fine mist is what you want.
You don't have to immediately go to the still air box(use a SAB not a glovebox) There's really no risk for contamination. Take the foil off the tops when you're done with the pressure cook(PC) so the verm barrier stays dry that barrier keeps contams out regardless so you're fine if you wait a day before inoculation and they're not in your SAB.

do not leave your jars slightly opened. i never bothered with micropore tape when i did pf- the dry verm layer does great.
use two sheets of tin foil over the lids when you put them in the cooker to better deal with moisture content problems.

When the jars are being pressure cooked, the moisture inside the jars are heated and presured, and it wants to escape the jar right? I thought it might be best if some of that steamy moist air could escape

I'm not sure, i've never had a problem making the jars the way i pointed out. i always got full colonization and never really had a problem with contamination

Indeed, I've decided I won't try to use an enclosed glove box, I will just try to open air inoculate in a still air environment.

My first jars (my sig pic) were done in my bathroom after cleaning it and spraying Lysol. I had zero contams.
Now I use a still air box (SAB), have yet to have a jar go bad (knock on wood!)
Make sure your sterile tek is good and you will do fine.

There fixed it for you.
The SAB is not open air, it's still air. The box is not sterile; however with no air movement/currents the contams that stick on the walls and bottom of your SAB will not be able to manage to get into your sterile mushroom substrates/petris/etc... The contams will stick to the soapy surface since you spray the inside of your SAB with warm soapy water. No point in using alcohol or bleach inside since they only sanitize anyway you need sterility and the still air provides a sterile work space. Soapy water works great because the surface tension helps it form a film rather than droplets so the whole surface of the SAB can trap contaminates. This is why we let the box settle for about 10m before going to work.
