Do the layers below need to be colonized to fruit? Or just 100% on top?

My 66qt monotub is 100% colonized on the top layer (nice and fluffy, no contams), but not yet on the layer below seen from the side of the transparent monotub. It's been 7 days. Is it ready to fruit or should I wait a few days?

Just wasn't sure if fruiting is only dependent on the top layer or also below.

These pics are a couple days old:

This lower layer part looks pretty well colonized, but the other parts aren't quite this developed.

So perhaps 7-14 more days? What am I looking for? A good showing of hyphal knots?

Wait until you're sure it's fully colonized at least. Substrates won't necessarily start pinning right away when they're done. I've consolidated for up 3 extra weeks (that's in addition to the colonization time) and in most cases there was no pinning until just after fruiting conditions were introduced.

From what I understand, pinning is unlikely until triggered by FAE anyway. I think the top is nearly 100% colonized, but I doubt there's any harm in waiting longer as is recommended. Especially if it helps to grow more mycelial roots throughout the substrate and to hold off contams.

BTW, this is my first growing experience. At first I studied up on Damion5050's tek and later read up on Frank Horrigan's threads. They're fairly similar except I pasteurized the substrate and dunked the spawn for ~10 minutes in water ala Frank. Thanks to them and all the other peeps that have asked and answered questions for us to learn upon.

Think I'll be patient and wait another 7-14 days before fruiting (Been a week so far). Thanks and I hope to update this as time goes on.
