So I was wondering if any of the psychedelics like lsd, shrooms, cactus effected your breathing....Do you ever get short of breath while tripping?....Does it ever cause excess phlegm and make you congested?...

The last time I had a good acid trip I was at a fest. I went in a little sick and ended up waiting outside the hotel the fest was supposed to be in for 12 hours while it got shut down. The whole time I couldn't feel my chest, which is usually why I smoke cigarettes like a fiend while tripping. The more L I took the less I felt my chest and by the time I got home the next day I had a full blown upper respiratory infection.
Whenever I blast into Deem Space, I notice m breath is usually short and extremely regular. I don't even control my breath it just happens. I can't remember the name for this phenomenon.

I don't think psychs do anything. Its us that effect our breathing. Im guessing a master shaman cannot tell the difference

It can make things interesting and indeed one can deal with excess phlegm. Could be because I have asthma, but it's never really been a big deal. One time when the air quality here was terrible I decided to trip and that turned out to be an extremely poor choice.

They make your body produce a lot more mucus, but the extent of this depends on the person. Some people get very thick mucus and a lot of it. One time I had a ton of mucus and I couldn't cough it out of my throat so I stuck my finger in to my throat out of curiosity and realized my mucus was as thick as gel, I pulled out a chunk/glob of it. Sometimes the mucus production seems to be increased in the lungs, other times the throat, and some times the nose/nasal cavity.

Every time I trip, I get a strange feeling in my nose. Almost behind my nose (sinuses?)
It's not like congested, just a bit off. And a big sniff usually cures it.
It's not that annoying though

I get phlegm when I trip too. I thought it was because I smoke a lot of weed, and all the laughing and talking loosened up some gunk in my throat... Still not sure what it is, just thought I'd share

man, I feel 4 ya. my brother(rip) had really bad asthma. What I fear most, though, is Alzheimer's.

ahhh....The reason I ask is because I havn't tripped in almost 3yrs....Before that I had many many journey's with all sorts of stuff....Took a break for personal reasons and don't remember how they effected my respiratory system.....I have had problems with my lungs since about the age of 18. I have had surgery on both of them since.....This past january i was in the hospital for 4days with the flu which causes a bunch of mucus....I have been having the urge to take a journey lately and this is probably going to be the final decider.....I don't want to have a mind fuck that my lungs are failing or something....I also take a daily asthma medication......

Damn bro, I hope it works out for you... If I were in your shoes, I would trip again just to confirm. Maybe focus on your breathing more while you trip, I notice that my breathing patterns get pretty whack sometimes...

I've experienced this, mostly with high doses of Shrooms. I lemon Tek'd 10 grams, and during the come up I was incredibly nauseous and felt strapped to my bed, submerged in a movie of CEV's, extremely intense patterns. If I closed my eyes for more than literally 5 seconds, I would completely lose my "self", especially since I had no lights on, it was pitch black. It got to the point though, where I'd end up losing myself and my breathing would be incredibly weird. I started living inside the patterns in my CEV's to the point where my breathing would control them, causing the patterns to breathe when I was, and go in different directions, but I didn't realize "I" was doing this, whatsoever. So I was no longer breathing for oxygen, I was just breathing deeply in and out to the flow of these patterns, long enough to eventually snap out of it and realize I was out of breath, and it just got really intense after realizing I lost control of something so natural.
This isn't an occurrence in every trip I've had though, that was a pretty hefty dose, so I kind of accepted the fact that it wasn't going to be too easy. Normally. my breathing doesn't become an issue, but can it? Absolutely.
