Turkey Tail Mushrooms - Alternative treatment for cancer.
    #19191365 - 11/26/13 10:50 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

A close Shroomery buddy of mine directed me to this video after hearing about my cancer diagnosis/unwillingness to pursue Chemo/Radiation (I'm very...all natural)

PAUL STAMETS - April 2013 on Turkey Tails for his mothers cancer treatment, 100% remission.
(https: xx //www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWT09ZDqFlE)

Turkey Tail Mushrooms
(Trametes versicolor)

I am interested in obtaining spores or cultures or anything that can get me started on cultivating these fruits so I can begin treating myself as soon as possible.

I appreciate any and all help, or any other random details about the Turkey Tails (taste/cooking/grow advice/anything really)

Thank you guys

-Plurfekt

I can send you the culture, :pm: me with your address
Maybe even a little tincture to start you out until you can grow the fruits (they take a while, but easy enough to grow).

My signature has directions on how to process the fruits to get the most out of them.

You should be able to find them growing wild as well...

Hope this helps, and good luck!

The video is very interesting, but it is all about using Turkey Tail as an adjunct to chemo and radiation therapy. Stamets says (at 2:56) that his mother was taking Taxol and Herceptin (which are chemotherapy! and he calls them "wonderful drugs," too) as well as Turkey Tail. Nothing in the video suggests that Turkey Tail has specific anti-cancer activity when taken as a stand-alone treatment. It's entirely possible that most of what it does is help your body stand up to the chemo better, for instance by reducing the immunosuppressing side effects.

Good luck!

I am aware of this, I caught it the second time I watched it/thought I had heard him say his mother was too old for chemo/radiation, kinda doesn't make sense now that I think about it (if those wonderful drugs are chemotherapy).

I haven't completely ruled out Chemotherapy, as much as I do not want to go through with it.  I will not do radiation.  That is all still on the fence for me, as of right now I am just trying as many other things as possible knowing full well the risks in waiting.

Considered a raw foods diet, already eat as healthy as I possibly can under my budget, take supplements, drink nothing but purified spring water (even cook with it, my dog isn't allowed tap water - eats Blue as well).

I try to stay as organic and as fresh as possible, luckily gaining weight is a good thing for me and I also partake in a lot of whey/recovery shakes, bars, etc.

I hunt, eat natural game (cleaned and cured and cooked properly of course) often as well.  Stay away from iodized salt (A vitamin supplement daily is plenty sufficient even though most of it doesn't stay in your system, I figure the body takes what it needs with some exceptions.)

Oh and I smoke MJJ/eat edibles as often as possible, but being a recovering addict I had to stray away from all of my connections except for one and I can't grow legally until I move over a state, which I am dying to do!  < Cabin in the woods with WIFI & my labrador = perfect.

I also believe cancer to be the result not only of the poisonous food and water/air we take in, but a spiritual affliction.  I'll be dealing with that through other means.

I'm also interested in the health aspects of general edibles as I want to grow most of my own food supply, and am definitely willing to take a look at other varieties with medicinal properties.

Will do man, I really appreciate that.  I took a gander at your signature thread and I am definitely willing to give it a try, seems more than logical to me.  I'll let you know my location, I wasn't aware Turkey Tails are indigenous to my area - I spent a lot of time in the woods here, too.  I can fill you in on more personal details in PM.

& as always I look forward to giving back myself.

Given the time of year I doubt I'll do very well on a wild mushroom hunt - maybe next season.

Thank you

-Plurfekt

I'm talking out of my ass, but I'm guessing the reason chemo is an option for someone too old for surgery or radiation is that the damage to healthy tissue is less localized to one place, so maybe easier to heal if your body's resources are already low.

The only medicinal effect I know off-hand from edible mushrooms is that oysters contain lovastatin, which lowers cholesterol (this may not be relevant to you). I imagine others on this site know more. I find that just watching these beautiful organisms grow does a lot for peace of mind and general happiness, though. (Also, Turkey Tails are gorgeous and I look forward to pictures of your grow.)

Be well!

Makes sense to me.  Radiation with tumors that size would have killed an old lady.  Radiation scares the shit out of me.  Mentally I feel like it is purposely putting myself through nuclear winter.  Not exactly on my wish-list.

Cholesterol = soooo not a problem for me.  Although - others in my household could benefit from that - I won't horde the bellas!  Rub some fresh ground pepper in the gills...mmmmmmm

And I agree.  I love creating the perfect environment in my cultivating.. makes me feel like a proud daddy.

There are a number powerful medicinal mushrooms that actually I suggest here is a free copy of Healing Mushroom if you want to learn more. There are many different species that are known to help cure cancer among a variety of illness.  Cordyceps supplements are additionally helpful when going through chemo as it increases red blood cells count thanks to glycoprotein that potentiates blood cell creation. Plus cordyceps posses immune system supporting compounds as well, it is actually the most valuable wild mushroom thanks to it's reputation for being effective medicine.
I'd recommend Aloha medicinal's is a good source for organic mushroom supplements.

Good Luck with everything!

Hey Plurfekt, I'm willing to share some turkey tails that I harvested from a plum log in my yard. There's about 2 ounces here. I could probably peel off some bark as a culture sample too.

Let me know if you are interested. Wish you success on your healing journey!

Thank you man, I downloaded the .PDF e-book and am excited to get to reading it, and added the site to my bookmarks - can already tell you I'll be making an order when finances permit me too.  Funny how I was wealthy in health and now I'm poor in sickness.

But what that taught me, is that true wealth has nothing to do with money.

By the way, LeopardMan is one of my favorite shroomerites - a truly great mind and spirit, and a hell of a friend.

Forrester has me covered on a couple months supply of tincture/fruits to make tincture & a culture to begin growing immediately.  I'm not sure how long they take to grow but I wouldn't want to accept anything from anyone unless I needed it.  For now I think Forrester took care of my immediate needs, but perhaps in the future, and I generally appreciate the offer!

Much thanks guys.

How I love my Shroomerites!

Check this out guys:

Thriving fungi found inside the Chernobyl Reactor, thriving off of radioactive particles.

And here I am wanting to take mushrooms instead of exposing myself to radiation, lmao.

Apparently it was an adjunct to Radiation therapy.  Just my luck?

Hopefully they have immune boosting properties regardless.  It is my hope my body will fight the battle.

Not sure what to do.

edit_

Found this as well:

"The natural killer cells promoted by ingesting turkey tails also target virally-infected cells. Moreover, turkey tail mycelium excretes strong antiviral compounds, specifically active against Human papillomavirus (HPV)"

I caught HPV around five years ago, after a couple months it was never an issue again.  Went over two years without sex trying to be on the safe side - doctors and other people I'd discussed it with led me to believe my bodies immune system beat the virus, making me immune to that particular strain, although still a carrier.  I know HPV commonly causes cervical cancer in women - but I wonder if this had something to do with my testicular development.. The timelines make sense in terms of origin and progression.

oncoviruses, they call them.  viruses that are cancer-causing.  also happy to report I never had a girl come back to me worried i'd infected her/women can be tested and a handful of my girlfriends were - none showed any signs of infection.  thank god for that.

I wish I had acknowledged this problem a long time ago when I found out, 2-3 years ago now, don't have an exact date.  For this reason, along with the advancement of swollen lymph nodes all over me and doing a cancer checklist and scoring 27 out of 30, I am worried it has progressed greatly.  During that 2-3 year period I was extremely immuno-compromised.

Found this as well, appears to be Paul Stamets version of the supplement derived from the mycelium of Turkey Tails.

Aside of healing mushrooms there are a number of natural components who seems to help in the destruction of cancer cells.
Here prsonally we use exstensively a blend of Annona leaf powder(Annona glabra, Annona squamosa and Annona montana(the most important one but also the most poisonous one)
We have several good outcomes with  dental cancer, lungcancer and colon cancer and in aid various mushroom extracts

I'm willing to look into anything at this point.

Really want to live long enough to achieve my dream of living off the grid in the country, eyes peeled on Alaska and the UP Michigan presently.  More-so I want to be healthy enough to live such a lifestyle, I have come a long long way but I'm not quite there yet.

Annona leaf hmm?  I'll do some reading, thanks

Have used these mushrooms on myself and others many times to get rid of colds/flu. The comment I always hear the next day is "I feel like a new person!" Best prepared using hot water extraction, and extremely easy to identify and forage yourself! If you don't trust yourself, head to a local Chinese medicine shop and ask for Yun Zhi (though local/wild is best IMO).  Have begun bringing them to work with me (I am a chef) to give to my customers who are under the weather. One of my regulars was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and every time I dose her with a tea she starts feeling better immediately (she has a weakened immune system and has been falling sick often). Give them a try, but don't tell your doctor because he/she will tell you to stop (hmmm suspect!)

You know what is strange, I do feel better already.  After doing my share of LSD I became sensitive to any changes in my perception, almost as if I've mastered all the tiny little emotions and physical sensations to a degree where I can make out the difference between how I feel eating an apple compared to eating an uncooked organic pepper. (not taste buds... lmao)

Who knows, maybe it was the weed - but I was stoned before I drank it and wasn't feeling too lively.  Now I feel charged, like shit it's quarter after midnight and I'm ready for the damn day now.

<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 to Forrester - give the guy a 5/5 he really hooked me up on that care package, take a look at his trade rating I posted.  The pack also contained Chaga which I'm reading how to prepare right meow.

One thing I know makes me feel better is that there is people like him out there, and that these kinds of things exist.  Imagine a world without them, reminds me of John Lennon..

The only thing strange about it is how normal it is. Turkey tails are an adaptogen so repair on many levels.
I recently discovered cordyceps and it's actually crazy how good they make you feel. I would imagine both those and they TT's would make an incredible daily tonic.

Glad I could be of help!  Some people do seem to be able to feel it, especially at first.  My mother-in-law doesn't take the reishi tincture at night anymore, says it gives her energy and keeps her awake.
