apply casing after substrate after colonized

This it's my first mono and I know casing layer is not required for cubes but I am doing this for something other than cubes. Anyway do I wait until my substrate is 100% colonized then add the casing layer or add all of it at the same time?

If you aren't doing cubes, then what are you doing?

Casing layers aren't typically necessary if cubes, but this is a great link to a casing layer: BOOM

I was reading through the forum to be picking about stuff like lighting and casing layer if you plan on moving to more challenging edibles.
