Da is correct, however in shamanic brews you will never find the two plants apart. dmt + maoi is the traditional brew which needs both plants.

I am aware of the psychoactive effects of syrian rue and caapi on their own, but I don't think that fits the traditional definition of ayahuasca. I don't doubt that people call a brew of only caapi ayahuasca, but the way I read your article you posted I took it as the only ingredient the author was aware of in every single brew was the ayahuasca vine itself, and that in all likely hood he was actually partaking in different variants of the traditional MAOI/DMT, and that he might not have labelled every plant to go into the brew because he didn't know what they were, or because it would be tedious. I was trying to highlight that viridis was actually an optional additive because there are alternatives to add to the brew. I don't think many tribes partake in only caapi, when the additive is readily available. So all in all what I meant was that ayahuasca probably wouldn't be the best term for an all MAOI brew, even with the translation of the ayahuasca vine.
Sorry if I was being a cunt but I just woke up and was going over it in my post to remind myself too
