no man.. I don't have any.. I put foil over the jars(forgot to mention) during steam bath but No tape over the holes at all... I guess I'm going to have to get some ? Do i leave this tape on the holes throughout the whole colonizing cycle ??

I just stopped relying on the dry barrier altogether.

The dry verm barrier is a very sufficient filter

You did use a dry verm barrier, right? It sounds like you did things right. Could have been a contaminated syringe... hard to say what the culprit was. I always wipe my lids with alcohol before noc'n em up and I think it helps a lot but, they should be clean if you keep the foil on till you're ready to go. I wipe everything with alcohol anyway.

Yeah you usually leave the tape on all throughout the colonization. And I personally don't see a use for the germ barrier neither if you have the tape.

They're all bad son. toss em. Use tyvek and silicone next time. also I'd get a PC or an autoclaive if I were you to prevent future contams.

lol do yourself a favor and DO NOT listen to the troll above. they are not all bad and you don't need tyvek and silicone. those are luxury items. good old fashion verm barrier and a sheet of tin foil thats been wiped down really good with alcohol has always done the trick for me. what you need is a decent pressure cooker. the third picture over is probably not cobweb but none the less it looks like it needs to be pitched. what the contaminate is identified as is neither here nor there.

A germ barrier is probably not very protective from contaminants

Yep, got the dry verm barrier but now that you mention it I probably didn't take the alcohol sterilizing far enough.. My second try should be much better!

You can see the trich in the fourth pic right? Also your supposed to take the foil off the top of the jar to let the mycelium breath. Micropore tape wouldn't be a bad idea. If your jars get jostled the contams sitting on top of the verm barrier get knocked down into the brf and grow. Your not even supposed to tilt the jar when looking at it. Suppose you had an earthquake which shook the house for 2 seconds then all your jars contamed, the micropore tape might save you in that case.
The orange does look odd. I would not give up on them. I'd let them colonize then when you birth them, smell the jars. There is a signature smell that your mushrooms have that should eliminate all doubt. It shouldn't smell sweet or sour. If you want to ensure success, make another batch in another set of jars while these do their thing.
I don't see any cobweb, good luck.
