casings vs cakes, casings faster?
    #19204564 - 11/29/13 11:42 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

After years of dicking around with grain mycobags, brf jars etc i finally made a leap to casings just to see what kind of difference it would make. I  crumbled a half pound brf bag onto a half inch of of moist vermiculite, and covered with an inch of jiffy seed mix/verm.. let it colonize at 77°F fr 3 days and about 25 percent of the surface colonized, which i patched with more 50/50 mix.

Two days later the surface was about 40% so i out it into a separate sgfc than my cakes.. its been in the sgfc for a couple days now and theres the biggest knots ive ever seen out of any of my grows everywhere, even down in the sides even though i used a silver foil cake pan. My question is do those of you experienced with casings find that they fruit faster than pf cakes that are birthed at the same time?

Ill try to borrow a camera or ipad from my dad next time i see him and get some pics up when its pinning..

unless your spawning to bulk there's no point in breaking them up IMO

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn

I'm tired do me a favor

It was a huge half pound block cake and thought it may perform better with bigger flushes although maybe less flushes. Do casings fruit faster than brf cakes in.  Sgfc on average or about the same time frame usually? The tek i followed said to either grate the cakes or break em up into "marble" sized pieces.. after i do a couple casings im looking to spawn to bulk mono tubs etc

no cakes on there own are the fastest way from spore to fruit bar none, when you break your cake up it needs to recover

What i did woth mine was, while still in the bag  I Broke the half pound cake up when it was fully colonized inside the bag and let it sot for a few days to make sure it fully recovered so maybe that saved a lil time in the overall process.. i dont understand why its knotting way down in the sides though, i understand lighting is a secondary pinning trigger but no light gets down in the sides..

Light has nothing to do with side pin formation....that is due to the side having the proper micro-climate for pinning....light will help the substrate pin WHEREVER ELSE on the substrate the climate is best...this is not necessarily where the light is hitting the substrate.
