Icefishing..
    #19203787 - 11/29/13 07:01 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hello... The iCe has finally set on this pond near me, and I would like to go Icefishing.. which I am going to anyway, but; I have gotten a lot of worries that since this is a pond, and there are gass bubbles beneath the Ice that would crack it easily I shouldnt do this at the risk of falling through the Ice and dying from the cold.. which to me makes it a lot of fun..

What would you guys do?
would you go Icefishing even though the ice might crack beneath you feet?
You may choose only one

No fish is worth your life, not even the big gamefish I catch. Just wait until it gets a bit thicker.

Of course there is always the possibility of the ice cracking, but you shouldn't be hasty and just take a risk like that. I plan on going ice fishing this year though, nice to meet a fellow ice fisher. Last year I had no luck at all and caught a total of 0 fish the entire season.

That's a good point - I've been in some nasty conditions that make me question why I do it. I guess we take calculated risks when it comes to our lives, to me it just seems that going out onto thin ice is a bit more of a sketchy thing to do.

Mind you I have zero experience with snow and ice, it doesn't get that cold here in Australia!!

I grew up ice fishing 50 years ago but seriously dying that way is pretty scary.  When it's really cold it doesn't take to long to get plenty of ice.  Nowadays with modern  people it won't take long watching before a really fat person moves out onto the ice. If they don't break through you know it's safe.:haha:

A word of advice:

If you plan to venture out on any ice that is even the slightest bit iffy, carry two ice picks. It can be very hard to drag yourself out of the hole if you do happen to go through.

Best way to carry them is the way a child carries his mittens- on a long string passed through both sleeves of your coat.

Life and deqth is but a choice... though a knife in the gut might be very convincing...you still chose to die..

if I want to life, I will live.. If not, then well...
