I used to meditate loads but the habit somehow slips from me again and again.
I have been at it for a week now. I feel awesome
I am starting slow with only 12 minutes but I am more relaxed and mindful already.

I think working up gradually is key.
If you start too ambitiously there is a high chance it will turn into a real chore and you will end up quitting. Better progress naturally when you feel ready. No rush at all.

I meditate until I don't feel like it anymore. Sometimes that's 40 minutes and sometimes 5

What do you guys actually do when you meditate? The only times I've tried meditating I try to cancel my thoughts and become more aware of my body, but I'm really not sure what this does or why it can be profound in any way?
sorry if it's a stupid question, meditating is just one of those things I don't fully understand

I meditate by feel, when I got too many thoughts I just close my eyes and relax
sometimes I just stop thinking if I got too many thoughts, step back, reasses, dont worry

I watch my breathing. Feel the air coming into my belly (belly rises) and then exiting. (Belly falls) Or feel the air on the tip of my nose come in/out.
Also notice how my body feels...Where is there tension?
I also meditate on the silence between noise if it's there. Or try to focus on the space around me. Not the objects in the room, but the space of the room.
Starts with breathing for me.
And I pay no mind to thoughts. They come and go but I don't try to cling to them or push them away. Just watch them pass on by

Basically I focus on the air flowing through my nostrils. But there are some other things I implement.
1 - Sitting up straight in half lotus with my ass on a meditation cushion. 2 - My hands in dhyana mudra 3 - Easy but deep diaphragm breathing 4 - Trying to breath in/out in a continuous stream or circle 5 - When my thoughts wander I gently push them back to the breath
I think this is basically vipassana meditation technique.
I am not there yet now but when I did this before I got hung up on the apparent eternity of a single moment between breaths. I also experienced instances where my ego started to fight back almost exactly like having a bad trip with fear/anxiety.
