fruitbodies forming deep inside of substrate instead of above?!

Is it common for many aborts to form inside of a coir substrate (in a plastic tray/container)? Im guessing this does not happen with cakes since cakes are much more solid and dense? Also is there a remedy for this?

Pics? If they're inside the substrate, how do you know they're there?

At least out some duct or electrical tape around the clear container to prevent light from getting in.. although light is a seconsary oinning trigger it still plays a role in side/bottom pinning..

Then they're side-pinning. No problem. That's not growing "deep within" the substrate

Pics needed, but it sounds like side pins. If they're on the outside of the substrate, but just not on the level top surface, that's side pinning. Taping your tub won't help, but using a trash bag liner will. Even a clear one. CO2 levels are the culprit, not light.
If they're actually some kind of super dense mycelial mass inside of your substrate, that doesn't look like a normal fruit, you may have a sclerotia producer, or else you have a serious problem that IDK how to diagnose.
Sounds like side pins though.
