A sheriff in Florida charged and arrested Hampton Mayor Barry Layne Moore with selling drugs this week, explaining that Bradford County "isn't Toronto," the Associated Press reported.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford admitted to smoking crack in November and has been stripped of some of his powers by the Toronto City Council. He has refused to resign.
Moore, 51, is charged with possessing and selling Oxycodone and is currently being held on $45,000 bail.
“This isn’t Toronto,” Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith said in a statement. "We will not tolerate illegal drug activity in my jurisdiction by anyone to include our elected officials."
Moore (R-FL) is not the only Florida politician to be busted for drug use recently. Rep. Trey Radel (R-FL) pleaded guilty to cocaine possession in November and is currently in rehab.
Moore has an arrest record that includes a battery charge.

Don't they get enough of our money anyway? Kinda sick to take our money to buy drugs, then sell them back to us. Our middleman to congress and our middleman big pharm. The guy had it made.

I'd rather have an elected official do opiates than crack, though.

Upper fiends tend to be more sketchy than downer fiends, IME. Probably has something to do with how quickly the effect/rush leaves them and how quickly the desire to do shady things to get more arrives. Also the sleep deprivation tends to fuck up a lotta mental acuity and/or common sense.

Ive noticed that opiate fiends tend to be very articulate and good manipulators/liars and great at hiding their problems (putting on a public face of being a pillar of the community while doing shady stuff when they think no one is looking) as where upper fiends tend to be more frank, curt and honest.
Many of the downer fiends Ive met are silver tongued devils who preach about values but are selfish at their core. Some will say things like "you should give all your money to help those less fortunate than you!" while spending all their money on drugs and pointing out that they are less fortunate.

Hmm, that may well be true.
I'm also likely a bit biased in that I tend to enjoy downers more than uppers, too.
