i don't think of zen masters as people who know a little about everything but nothing in depth...zen master knows reality in complete depth and probably not much else

Too much abstraction changes worldview too much and brings unhappiness IME
I don't know about this. I think learning about how nature functions has made it all the more beautiful and mysterious.

Nope. To a physicist, a cat is neither dead nor alive — until it is observed.

Avoid observing, you destroy the state :-)
Maybe I should get a few cats, to decide if God really does play dice

Dont you mean that the cat is both dead and alive?
A superposition of both
Just like it is everywhere in the universe, until you observe it
But I guess non-real states dont count in "reality", so superpositions dont count?
Dont remember QM a lot... but states are non-real until observed arent they?

Meh. I would say it's the same thing. You don't know which, so it's neither. Or both. I'll ask the guy at the gym who is a physicist.
You're probably right:

A lot about a few things. You can know a little about everything simply by watching many TV shows, or reading through an encyclopedia from cover to cover. That is like asking whether I would like to be a Renaissance artist or some random modern artist. Any Renaissance artist can do modern artist, but not the other way around, since it clearly takes a different level of skill to perform the other.
