The only thing people need to know about politics is that the average people have no power at all within the current system. It's all run by and for the rich. A plutocracy. Your vote counts for either one bought candidate or another. Protests and petitions are useless. Enjoy.

I used to be really into politics then I realized I won't ever be able to make a change and all the lobbying seems pointless if you can't pursue your goals.

Just like I wanted to be lawyer because I thought we had a justice system :rofl2:

I don't see how voting makes you intelligent.

Someone with no interest in politics could be either of those two extremes or somewhere in between. The same goes for any number of other topics as well.

pretty much this.

One need merely to read the comments sections on news web sites to realize that being interested in politics is no sure sign of intelligence.

Politics, governments,  and stratified societies bring out the worst in people. People existed for a really long time in small tribes with no money and basically no hierarchy except what one earned through age or experience.  Love and sharing kept us alive. Now we fight over money and destroy our only home to make the rich richer.

Pretty much sums it up. We would probably be better off if less people were interested in politics

Sure politics is an interest you can have just like collecting stamps. So not being interested in it shouln't be a big deal right?

The thing is, politics directly affect your life and the future of your country so its not a regular interest you know.

What do you guys think?

STAL

If anything people not interested in politics are probably more intelligent.

And each of those people probably vote, which is part of the reason it's meaningless and won't change anything.

Perhaps an intelligence test for voting, rather than the only requirement being to simply survive a certain number of years like it is now?

If there is a constitutional way to require a certain IQ to vote, I could live with that. Of course, a high IQ should be mandatory to have children. Only those who have made a net payment of taxes should be allowed to vote.

None of those will happen, but it's good to dream.

Fortunately this country does not mandate that people vote.

Not less intelligent, maybe ignorant, but it all depends. It's quite difficult to label someone as 'unintelligent' for their lack of knowledge in politics. It's a package, you know, like demeanor and other forms of communication can demonstrate intelligence together.

Phrase it however you wish. There should be a test.

Perhaps 4 questions at random from the immigration test.

Or name 4 of the 9 Supreme Court Justices.

I think people that don't at least keep up with relevant aspects of politics that affect them are complacent fools. They are either to cowardly and in denial about the shitty direction America is headed or too stupid to realize how precious the freedoms we have are and generally take them for granted. Or perhaps they have swallowed the patriotic jizz and are so pumped up with propaganda and bullshit from university, or military, or faux news that they cannot see straight anymore or even reason for themselves instead regurgitating talking points because that's easier to accept than diving into the rabbit hole.

So I would specify I think people are emotionally or logically stupid pursuant to being willfully ignorant. We are pacified by drugs, by hope, by sex, by material pleasures, by our pursuit of scientism and pop psychologies notions of "happiness", by Kim Kardashians ass, by sitting in comas in a room watching dumbshits with concussions throw around a pigskin. We are afraid of oblivion, afraid of death, afraid of uncertainty, afraid of meekness.

tl:dr - Yes.

As for the judges, I can't name one either. Then again, I'm not form the US so I guess it's normal

Actually the questions should be more direct and relevant: Do you support equality for all, church/state separation, evolution, and so on... They hook you up to a lie detector so you don't just tell them what they want to hear. If the answer is no to any of the above, you don't get a vote because you're too stupid. Get those non-issues fixed and over with. Then the more controversial issues that have legitimate claims on both sides can be worked out by intelligent people. One doesn't need to know who the supreme court judges are to be on the right side of those fundamental issues.

lie detectors are fallible though. a sizable chunk of the population in the US would say no to your questions and they surely aren't stupid either.

if you assume that a High IQ is an above average IQ, then less than half the population would reproduce leading to a slow, but significant decline in the number of children and eventually no children would be produced.
