Hokay so,
I really enjoy ferrel_human's Lophophora and Trichocereus threads and I couldn't help but notice there isn't a Mimosa Hostilis growers thread.
I've been growing this amazing plant since May of this year and I currently have 8 under my care. I'd love to see anyone else's grows and any specifics such as soil, watering, climate etc.
Mine are in a mix of sand, perlite, steer manure mix, worm castings and organic compost. They get watered daily and they exist in my tent which sits around 80 F with little to no humidity (I live in Colorado).
The oldest

the bunch

sorry for the sidways pic, I have no idea why it did that.

Not the best picture, but this tree is ~2 years old and almost two meters tall. Spent the first season in a pot then put in the ground this past summer. Hopefully it will explode next season.

They seem to grow hella fast indoors. Since I brought the oldest one in, in September, it was a foot tall, it's grown close to 2.5 feet. It was the size of the ones in the group picture but now it's roughly 3-3.5 feet tall.

You could bonsai them; they are easy due to the small leaves and fast growth. I don't even need to wire the branches down, just hold them down with a finger for a few seconds every few days.
PS you shouldn't offer trades here use the marketplace.

USDA 9a/b in the ground for a couple of years. It's at about 18+ ft tall now with a 2-3" in diameter trunk. No flowers or seed yet. I plan to top it once things warm up to encourage it to spread. I'm pretty sure they'll do fine in any soil. They stall out very quickly in pots.

I've been selling off the youngest of the bunch which leaves me with 7, all of which are steadily growing taller.
As for the oldest one, it's grown past where the light hangs and so it's started working on its lower branches.

Some of the branches have started turning either a dark red or brown color, but the 'trichome' like things on the branches have stayed green which makes me stray away from the idea of a burn.

Within the last few weeks I've started feeding each plant with a mix of Age Old Kelp, Grow, and Fish and Seaweed, every Sunday.

Damn! That looks awesome!
I just planted some seeds a few weeks ago, I had a few die off for seemingly odd reasons but here's where they're at now.

Does anyone know if they'll survive die back? Like if they're in the ground and winter starts to come around, will they recede back to their roots? Or will they just keel over?

I'll let you know as spring progresses. My big one was hit a lot harder than I initially thought. I'm keeping an eye out for activity. Saw some buds starting to burst forth on a couple of M. speciosa I had to cut back and wasn't sure survived so I am hoping its next.

I don't think they'll recede all the way back to their roots, but mine have gone deciduous, even in this mild SoCal climate.
