the filters are not your problem and over the years have all proven themself to be efficient in this hobby, lc is more likely your problem

I have also read that the tyvek should go on top of the metal lid.  I have thought about doing : Metal jar lid with a hole -> tyvek -> jar ring -> micropore tape over the hole.
Then I would inject through the tape/hole/tyvek and quickly cover with another layer or two of micropore tape.  I could already have the extra piece of tape on the jar and quickly fold it over.
Just some thoughts.  Any input would be great.

You think the LC is the problem? I have used it twice with success, and the third failed.  Isn't it more likely the reason for failure is that I pressure cooked the wbs quart jars, and had them sit for I think six days before inoculating. The liquid culture still is fluffy and white, and looks just as healthy as it did over a month ago.

You can't tell if a LC is bad by looking at it. LC inoculated with anything but a wedge is a contam crapshoot. Even then it contam every time you stick the SHIP. As for lids, I have tried many variations and my favorite is hands down SFD for the win.

IMO the only lid that needs a SHIP is LC lids. Anything else you can just lift the lid a bit in your SAB to squirt in solution the same way you inoculate with a wedge.
