Can cubensis grow on sawdust? 1

Like, if someone were theoretically spawning to a bulk substrate and they were out of manure, but still had some coco coir.
Has anyone ever supplemented coir with sawdust/wood pellets or think it would work? Or is it a waste of time?
Just plain coir is probably good enough though right? maybe some straw in there too?

Yes it has worked. I don't know how much he got but he did get fruits. I know because stromrider and I took a bet for prints on whether or not it would fruit and I won! Lemme dig out the link.

Sooo... it was woodchips, not sawdust. And he got like 4 fruits. But the answer is still YES!

hmmm, looks like I should stick with straight coir and straw for now.
Are there any active wood lovers that can grow indoors?

While this is true my friend came back from new zealand / australia with a qp of these a month ago. We must have each eaten a quarter and though we got decent visuals and a great body buzz we got pretty darn stomach crampy. I don't know if it's something I'd try again. Just wasn't a great mushroom experience and I think I've finally decided I don't want to trip anymore after this. I might be down for a psilocin extraction but I really am through eating mushrooms. I really just like growing them now. It's more fun than any trip has ever been for me.
He did say the trip was much better when he ate them fresh and I trust him pretty well.
Just my 2 cents. Personally I think cultivating a wood lover in doors is an awesome idea for a personal challenge!

And some azurescens + a trip to seaside! Shout out to the shop 'Jamaican me Crazy' where a random worker dude there sold me a bag of weed 5 years ago! Go buy his t-shirts.

It's not an ideal substrate, but cubes will grow on a lot of less than ideal substrates, much like oysters

Not well. Cubes are a straw and dung lover. Here's some of my early experiments with cubes on wood-based substrates. As can be seen, they did 'pin' but production was next to nil and the fruits were small and unhealthy. The wood dowels you see in the first two pictures are 1/4" in diameter so you can see how small the mushrooms were.

Might be beneficial to add like you would verm. It's not going to be very nutritious, but it'd probably make the substrate more airy and allow it to hold a bit more moisture.

wow, its always good to see you around RR! thanks for the detailed reply.
What do you people think of the idea someone mentioned, using sawdust to make a bulk substrate more airy? Might be pointless since coir is pretty good on its own.

if your just talking about supplimenting a little bit go for it, just don't try strait up chips but a few scoops to get your depth you need shouldn't harm you too much

I'm the one that made the airy comment and fwiw I would simply go with strait coir if it were me, but if you wanted to expirament I also can't imagine why it'd hurt anything.

I think it was wicker of some sort. It's something the o'lady had hanging from the ceiling for years and I got tired of looking at it.
The bird was solid wood. Look at the rhizos. RR
