If my memory serves me right I think i heard in a utube video wer paul stamets was saying that white button mushrooms are analogous to smoking and that they can cause tumors! Is this really true?!!

No. They say the same lie about pot; that it has ten times the carcinogens of tobacco. However, compare cig smokers rates of cancer to pot smokers and we see it doesn't work that way. In fact, smoking pot is protective against cancer, even for cigarette smokers.
Just because button mushrooms seem to have an ingredient that when isolated and concentrated is a carcinogen doesn't mean the mushroom is carcinogenic. Remember with mushrooms the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Nearly all mushrooms have anti-cancer properties. RR

RR - is there any issue with raw consumption of button mushrooms? I'd heard heat breaks down the chemical people are worried about.

I've always figured this was because the resin, THC specifically, is lipid soluble and absorbs into the lung tissue instead of coating it. I have never heard or seen any study proving this, it just makes sense to me.
