runners high
welcome to the world of endorphins (though, recent research has begun to suggest that this effect may actually be caused by endocannabinoids instead)

If your in college or school or whatever, I'd suggest running every night. It does wonders and really helped me through school.

I have been running for years. Never got high from it.
Those natural highs just dont cut it for me.

Though it may not replicate the experience of an opiate high, physical exercise most definitely can have an impact on breaking out of a cycle of depression.

Here's what wikipedia has on it--contains a few links to studies--though, more recent research is beginning to suggest that it may be endocannabinoids that are causing the perceived 'runners high'.

yeah, alot of things are good for depression, like running... but it's not because you get high that one gets less depressed. i just find it funny when i see someone give advice to go running for one's depression, but they reason that "it'll get you high", as if that's a reason why it's good for depression.

I wasn't doubting you shiva, I was just taken aback. It holds a lot more weight with me that endogenous cannabinoids and not opioids cause runners high, since I tend to like weed 1000x more than any PK's or opiate derivatives.
Thanks for the link, although I don't usually use wikipedia. But I'll definitely take a look into the references articles/studies.

I've had anti-drug friends tell me "Just exercise, it's the same high that you'd get from drugs."
I'll agree that exercise is great stress relief and I've gotten a mild relaxed feeling after running or working out but that's about it.

Its not like i got "high" from running more of a feeling of euphoria for about an hour after i stopped just mild euphoria really. People saying running doesnt help clearly dont know what depression and stress feel like to have it for 5 years and get totally happy from having a run clearly.

Ya man it will help, even if you go for like 15 minutes or something. I know for a fact when I run I get a better sleep that night too. Running isn't going to cure depression or whatever but it makes me feel better, I notice a big difference when I go through periods at a time when I run every night. I haven't ran much in the last 5-6 months tho. Running to me, is like almost the same benefits I get from meditating. I feel more relaxed Less mind chatter when I go to bed Pretty much to sum it up I just feel center'd (how the hell do you spell centered) my spell check says it's spelt centred, maybe centered isn't a word? Weird.
Anyways yeah this reminds me I haven't ran or meditated in a long time, probably won't tonight either

Nobody is saying running aint chill and beneficial.
Its just that most people who actually get high are somewhat disappointed by this co called "runners high". Running makes me happy too, mostly when its over. But its not like I am going to zone out on the couch watching cartoons...
