Its a bad trend. People used to be more generous to complete strangers. They'd give cigs away, now you have to make a lucerative offer.
I'm just saying. At least this way people have a way to 'pay' for a singular cigarette that they otherwise wouldn't be able to obtain unless they forked over 6 dollars for a full pack. I still bum away cigarettes, but if somebody offers me a dollar for a cigarette of course I take them up on that offer.

i know a few hood shops that'll sell single cigarettes, don't think it's legal though.

I don't smoke anymore, but when I did it was unfiltered soft packs. After the first cig most people don't ask again. They just can't handle unfiltered.
in the city though when a bum askes I don't think twice. They don't even smoke them. They eat them. And in exchange for the meal they point me to the block with the best drugs I happen to be looking for.
bums always know the best corners.
also I didn't read op so I might be way offtopic.

Paying for something that costs money is a bad trend? That's ridiculous.
I often offer money to someone if I'm trying to bum a smoke from them, it makes me feel like not such a bum.
Cigarettes aren't $1 a pack anymore...

i guess you got to try and judge if they really need the smoke or not
in like grade 9, i walked about 10 km down the main street with all the stores, asking every smoker i saw for a smoke, and collected them all, i got like 2 packs worth's, then the next few days at school sold them all for like 50C -1$ a piece, so watch out for scamers i guess

That's the thing... they'll always need the smoke because they're addicted.

LOL, generosity to complete strangers.... Here's some generosity, how about the person who can't get a job to buy his own cigs has some generosity and stops trying to mooch off the rest of world, gets a job and buys his own cigs.
A gas station nearby used to sell single cigs for a dollar until they got in trouble for it. It was a great, if some asshole would ask me for a cig I'd tell them to fuck off to the gas station and buy one for a dollar.
If you can't afford to smoke cigarettes, you got no business smoking them.

I've been smoking since I was 14, and I have always given out cig's to anyone that ask's. Unless I don't' have it but even then I'll share my last one. I've had the favour returned many times over so I guess it's smoker's karma

This makes no sense. It's still strangers being generous to strangers, just now it's the person asking for the cigarette instead of the one giving it.

People who will refuse others cigarettes or change on principle alone have some fucked up principles IMO, but I consider generousity an admirable human quality. It seems that some people dislike others by default.
Tobacco has always been a thing to share with friends and strangers alike. It is kinda sickening to me how it has been turned into such a commodity that some people can't see this, but I guess that just has to do with the way I want to view the world.

Its a good trend, people don't feel comfortable leeching off of others and offer something in return. And people still give cigs away, its just some people don't like just taking things.
