Does mycelium have to exhaust substrate before it fruits?

Im interested to know does the mycelium of cubes have to exhaust all of its host substrate before it fruits?
PS: I read in a book that said some species DO, but it didnt mention anything about cubes.

No it doesnt have to exhaust it all but even after 100% colonization your mycellium will still consolidate itself for a period of time before fruiting. That is the stage where it just starts eating up the nutes and storing energy for fruit production instead of expending it in further colonization efforts. And alot of growers will tell you to actually keep it in this stage for a while longer than the myc will do on its own in order to produce bigger/meatier mushies.
Thats my limited understanding of it anyways.

The mycelial network needs to still have nutrients to produce fruits.. its kinda like how a house plant will die if its mever watered.. alot of nutrients are eating up during colonization but the substrate isnt exausted til the mushrooms stop producing, bc they have no more nutrients to fuel production.. if that makes sense..

I don't think so. This is not a for sure thing though.
Here's my reasoning....
After the first flush of a pf cake it's still kinda firm. Sometimes even after the second flush it's still firm.
But eventually it becomes soft because it's been eating all those nutrients.
So while the mycelium does need time to 'digest' the substrate I don't think the sub is completely exhausted just to produce the first fruit.

In ur post wer u trying to say that its better for mycelium to consolidate in the spawn jar for a longer period of time so that wen it is finally added to substrate the fruits are meatier? Is that wat u were saying?

Yes. But not only in the jars, once you spawn to bulk substrate it is good to let the mycellium consolidate after 100% colonization aswell. That is if your doing bulk .
Another trick that some swear by and I do myself is to soak your grain jars for 10/20 minutes right before spawning to bulk. This makes for a faster colonization time in the bulk substrate and bigger fruits.
If you havent already you should really read FrankHorrigan's (trusted cultivator) how i get shit done threads. I know ive found them immensely helpfull as have many.
I hope this stuff helps and grow on man

they don't stop metabolizing during fruiting they will stop when the meal is finished or contammed
