Trichocereus hybrid grow blog! Small guide to grow trichocereus from seed.
Decorative picture, peruvian seed grown trichocereus pachanoiI obtained good hybrid seeds from fellow shroomery friend and I want to share now blog from day one after seeds are sown. Seeds are sown to 20x20cm wide and 10cm height tray with ~4cm of growing medium at bottom of tray. Seedling tray are above the heating pad and it has made from regular plastic food container with original cap fit to container with holes made to it. Tray and cap keeps humidity and moisture enough even there is already holes to prevent mold and ensure air circulation. One hole at container cap are about ~2cm diameter and three another holes are ~1cm diameter. Every hole are corners at cap of container and because air inside gets hot it's obviously hot air automatically rise up and escape from holes at cap of tray.. So air circulation works.. Humidity and temperature is enough even I don't use totally closed cap to tray. Equipment: -2700K 125W cfl light bulb / changed to 36W fluoro tube at February of 2014 / Now(12th of April, 2014) light source is sun at windowsill. -Heating pad -24Hour timer what controls heat mat or timer for lights.Heating isn't necessary at all after +6months of cultivation, sun does heating fine. In case if you start growing during winter with extra heat !!!Basically trichs are easy to grow by using only somekind of miniature greenhouse, they don't need heat if they have some strong filtered light and climate is warm. Now there is 14hour day time and 10hour night time(Mid-winter 2013) Heating pad is always on with cfl grow lights, small enough to grow seedlings, later on before their first year age they should be adjusted to stronger sun light at windowsill, it's better than any artificial light for 1-2yo trichs. Especially sunny windowsill are perfect long time if someone is in climate like me and can't grow cacti outdoors. I have not measure temperature nor humidity so much but there is about +31-35C day time heat when heat rise after heat pad starts to heat. Night temperatures are about +18-22C. Temperatures Depends how cold room temperature is. And then back to topic:I have sown 3 different hybrids and germination rate was good. I don't count how much seeds I sow but it doesn't matter, I am interested to see what kind of trichocereus I can get. All 3 hybrids are sown to same container as mixed, I think to save some space and use only one seedling tray. Thanks for good quality seeds to my friend at shroomery who donate me good and fine seeds! List of trichocereus hybrids sown to tray: - [t. scopuicola x t. bridgesii] x super pedro - super pedro x [t. scopulicola x t. bridgesii] - t. scopulicola x t. pachanoi
My growing medium is simple: ~45-50% of coco coir ~25-30% of perlite ~20-25% of pumicide (volcanic rocks)There are also pumicide layer at top of growing medium and seeds are sown among then so they can get support from them later. Date of sowing is 11th day of November 2013Close shot from seedlings 10days after germination. Date 21th November 2013 Whole seedling tray in picture, hard to see still young seedlings. Date 21th November 2013. This is going to be similar growing blog to thread of my lophophora sp grow blog.My lohpophora cultivation thread grow blog is here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18844859Update with pics are on the way as fast as plants grow. I try to update this monthly for you if you are interested to read and follow.. edit: Seeds can be germinated in any kind of plastic container what light will penetrate, ~1inch(2-2,5cm) thick growing medium level in container is ok and also draining+air circulating holes. One big flush of water enough and seedlings will stay alive long time without doing anything for them. Keep away organic material to prevent mold. Coco coir ´with lots of mineral rocks are great for cactus seedlings. Dry seasons can be started at age of 4-6months. Plants need water only at times when they are really shrink and show sign of dehyration. Always water full flush after first long drougt and when plants are big enough. Sometimes trichocereus seed germinate after first flush have dried and new soak of grow mediu cause them to germinate. Sometimes it's natural not all seedlings survive, but trichocereus is easy. Your absence is the key word with this. Plants don't need babysitter, even few month old cacti. Also I don't suggest to move the container of any cacti during grow season, especially with t. bridgesii and it's relatives got those black ooze sometimes if pot are moved around. Seedlings tolerate different light conditions till they are big cacti. Afterall, they don't move in nature much anyway.

They sounds like a cross that was done by someone I know. How was the germ rate? If they are the seeds that I think they are you will be the first person that I have heard of that has put them down so far. Interested to see how these turn out.
I thought I would edit this post with the photos of the mother and father Super Pedro

I don't count seeds but there is pretty good amount of seedlings.. I had these 3 in separate bags and sow all to same container cause lack of space but it's ok to me..
I want to see what kind of plants I have later on I will move them to own pots.. I can't know 100% sure what plant is what cause all is mixed together but compared to seed amount I throw there and see seedlings from tray I can say germination rate is better than most of my trichocereus seeds I have sown.
What I can say.. One of the best germination rate I have experience with trichocereus but I cannot say total numbers cause I don't count the seeds.
I can estimate roughly I sow ~100-250 seeds or maybe more. Anyway, there is good amount of seedlings compared to seeds I sow!
There can come some later sprouts too possible, also it's only 10days after sow so there can come more seedlings anyway if some of them are germinating later..
First seedlings started to show after 3-4day.
I am facinated to hear I might be the first person to grow these hybrids.
It would be perfect to sow these every hybrids to own trays so I know what hybrid is what..
Anyway, they are hybrids and I think I pick same appearance plants later on to same pots. I probably grow these in pots where is 3-6 cactus plants in one pot after they reach bigger size, these should be ok size when summer is there so I can get them to good size after 2014 summer. They are still all hybrids so I was not think there is any reason to separate these to own trays, its fun to find out what appearance cactus plants I found years later.
I keep this thread updated with pics!

I believe that the fist two lots of seeds are my crosses ( [t. scopuicola x t. bridgesii] x super pedro - super pedro x [t. scopulicola x t. bridgesii]). I would doubt any one else would have done this cross both ways recently. You could check with the person you got them off and see if they came from me. If they are mine I can post pics of both the plants that produced the seeds and give you info on there origins.
It is a shame that all of the seeds were mixed up as it will be interesting to see the difference in the traits of the seedlings with the opposite crosses.
Whatever the outcome you are now growing Aussie genetics in (from what you have posted before) one of the coldest places in the world.
Cheers Got

They are from you I know it.
Anyway, I think when I sow seeds to soil because they are all hybrids I grow tray full of trichocereus and then later on pick plants what have nice appearance and so on.
Because all indeed are hybrids and mixed with another, I can declare all bigger trichocereus later are hybrid but I have something data to show what they possible can be so I can rule lots of species out from these hybrids in tray.
I am 100% sure person who send me seeds have not lie about the what they are, they are from you GoOnThen but not directly and hybrids are really what they are said to be.
Cause lack of space in here arctic I had to make decision I grow aussie hybrid tray without sorting the seeds further
Later on when plants are older, even I don't know for sure what it is.. I don't mind it because I know there are only 3 seed strain used. It's interesting to find out what kind of appearance plants show cause so much of genetic variation. Probably after 1-2 years I start to see differences in plants.
I probably label these to my collection as aussie hybrids or something!
I am sure I probably never get trichocereus flowering here And I probably can't breed them further etc.. So I think I just grow a tray full of hybrids what I know they are.

I am also growing goonthens hybrids. And I already gave some out in trades. I have a small tray full of em. Germ rates were like 100 percent. But I did t count em,but judging by how many pinches I threw there I made sure I threw 4 pinches of seeds and sure enough it was full of em. I'll post a pic later

Update! 5th day of December.
Next week at Monday comes full 4 weeks time from the day of seeds are sown.
I have sow different seeds to 3 rows, not totally mixed, seems germination rate of all these hybrids are good. Better than most nurseries has sold me!
There are some pics from tray.

Looking good.. Perfect rate of germination even I have not count the seeds but when I see the amount of seedlings and remember the amount of seeds, I can estimate germination rate of 75-90%
Some minor moss seems to be at top of pumicide rocks probably cause of fertilizer spray.. Growing medium doesn't contain fertilizers at all.. Moss has never done harm to seedlings and I have find it can be benefit to create a small ecosystem to tray.. No mold around there so I'm not worried at all.
I can't update large pictures but these should do fine. I have reduce the size to save space. Age can vary from 2-3 week, some seeds have germinated later. Soon they are 1 month old.
I'm going soon away from home, I have to leave these for 2-3week alone.. I think they do fine. I just drop the time of heating pad for ensure moisture. I am confident cause I have seen very dehydrated young seedlings survived trough dry time at very young age and they starts shrivel again when got water.
Also the 4-5cm layer of growing medium holds long time moisture.

I have find a good way to grow cacti from seed in here arctic.
My recent attempts has usually failed or fatality of seedlings has been very high.
With head mat and lights controlled with timer gives nice day time heat what seems to be very critical to keep cactus alive without rotting in humid.
Before without any extra equipment in constant room temperatures I have not succeed to cultivate cacti from seed, for some reason without night and day temperature change most of seedlings rot very easily and die after germination.
Now it's good.. I think I'll have good amount of various trichocereus cacti at summer what I can move to windowsill and let them enjoy sun.
I am curious to find out what kind of appearance cacti I have after few seasons.. aww!
I will update moar when I see it's necessary!

That's pretty cool you can get them going up there! I'm in a much better climate and you're still doing a ton better than me I bet you're going to have a hell of a time if you decide to figure out what types you have. Should be pretty awesome bragging rights to say you have 50+ types of trichs. I need to figure out what the hell I'm going to do to get mine going properly.

-Buy 24hour timer, heat pad(example from pet store used for reptiles) -Obtain artificial cheap lights, 20-200Wattage is ok. -Any plastic container does fine (I have very cheap plastic container with cap to it, old food container from store) -Coco coir, perlite and pumicide are good growing medium. (some big commercial cultivars use this)
Place your plastic box with cover above the heat pad and use 12-14hour heat on during day. You can use windowsill light if possible.
I can say, heating pad makes wonders, increase the humidity and day temperatures and therefor in high temperatures seedlings tolerate far way more water and grow fast when day temps are over +30C insde the box.
I have done four holes to cover of box and just sow seeds above the soil between pumidice rocks so they can get some support from rock surface. Coco coir is good. Also I microwave the growing medium about 1-2minute before sow seeds there to top of hot soil. Then I spray cool water and wait.
Now I am this point. If I have sun visible there arctic, I could not even need a artificial lights. Anyway after I take heat mats to use for seedlings I have seen good growth rate and successs of germination and reudction of sudden deaths..
I got my water proof heating pads at very cheap price from pet stores where they sell them when need to heat up a reptile environments. I find there same heaters are cheaper from pet stores compared to garden stores. Anyway, air circulation and heat pad has done very good job and I would not even think I grow cacti from seed without extra heat during day light. Also I fear less seedlings to root rot cause they just tolerate the moisture much better in +30-35C temperatures.. Also holes at top of container causes warm air "escape" and it's passive minor air circulation.

Hey IntelligenteLife, good stuff brah.
I wanted to add that I completely agree about temp changes. I hit 86-90 in the day and drop to 70-73 in the evenings. My setup differs slightly from yours in that I have a thermostat on my heating pad and I'm using 30k lumen worth of 6500k light. My trays are a little different too but otherwise we've got similar conditions. Best of luck man you got a nice setup.

Awesome guide! I think for the most part I'm doing the same thing as you, except I don't have a heating pad. You stressed how helpful it is so I think I'll go pickup one once my yearly ice storm clears up My seedlings are in a tray with just sand and perlite, and I spray them with 1/4th strength cactus fertilizer every other day. I have germination of a fair amount of the seeds but I think that the tray is too shallow to allow proper root growth and that they will eventually die.
I also set up a smaller tray recently using the remainder of my seeds. It is a significant amount deeper, and is 1/3 perlite, 1/3 fine soil, 1/3 cactus soil; It has a layer of cactus soil over the substrate. I have higher hopes for this tray because I won't have to fertilize it for a while and it's deeper. Both trays are under two full spectrum 20W tube fluorescents.
I'll definitely go grab a heating pad next chance I get because my temperatures vary from a daytime temperature of about 24c (76f) to about 22c (72f).

I am not home so I can't see them but when heaters are off, temps are from +16-19C or so. Daytime, I have never measure how much heating pad gives moist and captured heat under the dome where seedlings are. I estimate daytimes to +30C or something with increased humidity. Because I'm not home or anything, I have only 12/12hour light cycle going on. Almost 300Wattage of fluoros to large area of young plants or germination containers.
I'm excited to see how they have been manage without care about two weeks or so. Now is week one.
Best way I success with seedlings are hot day time and cool night period. I do it with heating pads from 10-20Wattage/one. Trays are above them. Mostly when I let surface of soil dry very early, I usually got new sprouts of plants.
I give update in one or two week of this when I get back home. I'm on the road now.

Nice fat mother/father plants.. Fun to see how fat cacti I can get from seeds of those... Lack of light is always present most time of the year there.. haw haw. Well, it's a matter of few years. I probably introduce these to sun at summer with some shade cloth.

Yeeew, can't wait to get to see these and post a update or something..
They will be one or two weeks more alone without any care. I have seen very dramatical droughts and seen how seedlings survive them. Also 5cm layer of moist coco+rocks+perlite is enough to keep moisture, cap of the container is full of some holes to ensure air circulation.
Anyway, even I am on the road, I don't think even how's my seedlings do, it's winter time etc.
Probably after new year eve I show pics from the tray when I got to see it myself.. Anyway, cacti is always tought, no matter of age..
My over 6month old lophs has not been watered for month or so.. Don't even remember when I give them some water, I need be careful at winter time even I use extra heat.. Artificial day time is still short with heaters, I wan't all plants to know it's not summer time anyway but they manage to stay alive.
Hope I have in few years nice variations of trichocereus plants!
Maybe so much I can share coolest ones with my friends or so
..an ofc update the pics there from the seedlings in tray. Also I notice this can be ok guide to use if someone want to grow cacti from seed and estimate the growth rate. Ofc I need to fertile these with liquid fertilizer sprayed above them with small amounts randomly. My growing medium doesn't contain anything fertilizers except minerals from volcanic rocks.
I will take pic or two from my lophophora blog thread also and update both when I'm back home. I have also my lophophora grow blog thred in there shroomery. Project is atm +6months old or so..
These trichos should be good stage and size to give some sun at summer... Assuming no any big problems come up. I have notice a growth speed when cacti have hot day time, lots of less rotten seedlings compared to before when I don't used bottom heating equipment and these "mini-greenhouses" what sit above heat pad.
As I have experienced, in my climate some excess day time heat with cool nights benefits lots of cactus plants. There are rarely hot. Maybe at summer temps can rise to +30C but more common is +13-18C summer temperatures there outdoors.
If I success good, I maybe Can find a shady spot from greenhouse to this tray, would be awesome even I have silly amount of time I can even use greenhouse before too cold weather comes again.
Thanks you all you follow this.. I find it's fun to keep somekind of blog from day one to future.

I just get back home, seems plants do better without any human care!
2weeks without no water etc, these do fine, I have relatively deep soil what storage water so these was perfect..
Can't wait when I see sun and give some for these later.
Pics are taken just today. 27th of december. + 1month from sowing

Looks good.. Also my lophophora's now +6months, was surprise to me..

Well.. If you think, it's 4-5cm(~2inch) deep and 20x20cm(8x8inch) wide area of coco coir + perlite + pumicide. 12hour light and heat and rest of the day is cool. Completely moist growing medium like this will keep long time moisture and because high day temps(+30-35C)seems trichocereus and few other species tolerates lots of constant moisture and humidity.
Only mid-area have got some moss to surface of pumicide rocks, I think it's because I have spray some fertilizers there, moss grows where is light, I just turn some pumicide rocks around to prevent moss spreading even I have notice moss isn't bad even there is some.
I have never kept these in totally closed environment but air circulaton is enough mold doesn't have grown there.
I can take photo from whole box where I grow these.. Now I don't have time, I just spent time on the road 2weeks etc.. I probably update pic from tray when I got picture from lophophora plants after they have plump up. They was very nice condition and got some nice coloration due to longer drought.
------- Most pleasure I had when I look my lophs.. They're very tolerant against drought. These were also just spent time above heat pad without water and care little bit under 6 month old but they are not anymore under humidity bag or dome. I have start to treat these like adults..
6th day of Dec
 27th day of Dec

Next post there will come in 2-4weeks.. I'm trying to update monthly both my threads.

I promised to show a picture from tray what I use for these plants.
I use cheap candy box(buy'd from grocery store) for plants, cheap heating pad and some fluoro lights.
I have not taken much effort for this, fast done coco coir, perlite and pumicide growing medium, 8x8inch size wide plastic box, I have done some holes randomly to cover of box and bottom for drainage. I think I remove the cap from box after few months, then I start dry and wet season watering.
Take a look how cheap seedling tray can be done. Only what I have paid is heating mat and light bulbs.. Pics are taken at 31th day of Dec.

Update... Pics taken at 11th day of January 2014
Some pics only.. And ofc these have been grown some.

Nothing much more. I have randomly kept these at open air, Now light&heat cycle is 13/11 hour.. So one hour longer day than night.
So far so good. These have been done okey without any maintenance, one time I have spray some fertilizers for these, coco coir, perlite and pumicide doesn't contain any NPK at all..
I have not find a single dead seedling yet.. yey!

They look very good intelligent. A little stretched. How far away is your light on them? I plan I doing some mutant trich crosses soon. So I need some ideas on getting them started. Thanks.

Ferrel: If you want some ideas about trichs, turn my tread to your "guide" and keep on growing.. I have growing medium information at first post.. Mostly coco coir based but rocky and perlite containing growing medium is good for young trichs in my mind. You maybe don't need heating mat down there.. I don't know but it have helped me lots.
They're stretched but seems it's in the genus.. I have enough light etc.
Ofc the deck of the seedling tray block some light but soon I remove it and start dry and wet cycle..
My peyote container are just next to these.. They look fine what comes to light.. Also one pot of random trichos are fine..
Ofc fluoros are what they are but I can manage to get them big enough and then move these to enjoy some sun and so on.. When it's time for transplant, I bury the "neck" where is no spines what cause the appearance of streched..
I have diffusa seedlings also.. Grown slim and now they're round balls at top. They are also next to these.
I have find out most cacti grow that slim section without aeroles as seedling and will continue growth and go fat.
I tried to sow these along pumidice rocks to hide this "skinny neck" but seems they need new layer of pumicide.. Well I let hem be there.. Every seedling seems they're okey and like I said other pot of trichs have very good signs of what kind of light environment I have. But.. My diffusa have also skinny neck... Maybe it's natural? If I think these grow in their habitat, at cracks of the earth, they need long "skinny neck" to reach far and then start support surrounding environment rocks or another plants.
This happens to me always when I do surface sow.. Skinny neck what seems streched.. There are mixed hybrids, some are not so skinny or they're at deeper "holes" of growing medium.. I'm not worry at all.. Same heat pad have lots of another containers and they looks signs of good light environment as you may have seen from my young lophs. They are next to this tricho-tray.
These are growing next to tricho hybrid container, also skinny neck but otherwise they have turned to fat ball shape at top..

I have find out from these hybrids there are some with short neck, some with skinny necks.
I don't have now time to take photo from seedlings of trichocereus (different but next to these) they are totally fine and fattening up even they have skin neck.. Also my lophs I have updated have done same thing and I had randomly long and round young month old seedlings around the tray.
I have almost 300W of cfl and enough close.. Always when I do surface sow without even trying to sow seeds to some "holes" they come out like this but after few months they have very skin neck and fat top.. I probbaly need new layer of pumicide to add around these, but it's too early to say.. I don't know what grow fat, what grow slim etc.. Only I know cfl bulbs are not the best choice but will do 6-12months with trichocereus.
I have never doubt light amount with trichs when they look like this.. year old plant grow slim and not properly, then I doubt the light.. Maybe more 2700K color temp based fluoro bulbs have something to do with this "elongation" but hey.. they're just above one month old, now I will start to see how they really grow.. But I have all youngsters under same lights, no problems with them.
I have hypothesis about why some grow skin neck and some doesn't it's just matter of survival in dense mountain forest or at desert where seed can drop to deep crack and they benefit to grow naturally elongated and take support with their neck etc.. I find out about half of lophophora seedlings grow column, then turn to ball-shape, and another half goes directly to ball-shape.. Similar phenomena I have seen with trichs, and I have think because lots of different neck plants around same conditions, it's probably genetics and matter of survival in the wild. If these doesn't grow fat at top, then I can say I don't have enough light.
This is what I'm talking about:
Same condition, cobulars and columnar shape mixed but now the lophs are pretty nice shape and actually have more light now than at the time of few weeks old.
Understand what hypothesis I'm trying to say about? Picture above are just same lophs I have kept "blog" to another thread, and now they are next to these trichs and show they are very satisfied, also another pot of 1-2months older trichs are doing fine next to these. IMO These are just too young to say, maybe only solid thing what I can say is reddish 2700K balanced light even there are mixed some 6500K bulbs. totally about ~300Wattage or cfl power.
But there is one factor, the cover of box can block some light so it can be reason to appearance also.. I will see after 2-4months what kind of plants these really are.. That neck are usually buried to soil or under rocky surface. I just don't have planned to transplant these for long time. Also, these will not going to be under these light conditions long time.. At summer they will be have some windowsill light and direct sun for sure.. I can harden them off with my HPS+MH light setup easily.. These lights to older plants tend to cause seedlings go seriously brown/purple in few days.
These trichs have one 125W fluoro above them only 20cm from cover of the box, next of them are few over 30Wattage bulbs different colored.. Should not be matter of light...
With adult trichos I know for sure.. shorter day length cause "elongation" very easy, no matter hot strong lights are. For compare 12/12 lights doesn't give so fat trichos compared to 16-20hour/day of lights on. Also like I said 2700K color temperature can be also one factor for these.. I have still never got "perfect" seedlings with fluoros and never willing to try.. They have nice place reserved at windowsill when spring and summer comes.. So they do fine that time...

Hi, First off id like to say nice grow, looking forward to seeing future posts on it.
I planted my first seeds 5 days ago and did something similar to what you did. I was wondering if you start yours under cfls all the way from germination or if not what age do you start to adjust the seedlings from natural light to cfls?

I have no natural light at mid-winter.. Started with cfl germination.. It's enough strong light but not too strong it can't burn seedlings.
I will move these to natural light as they get old enough and when my climate allows it. Now I have 3hour/day possible light but no direct sunlight for weeks..
As fast as possible I move these in to natural light and probably use some shade cloth at first but I'm at arctic circle now, I really need wait to april-march in order to make possible to get natural light for plants enough.

5th day of February
Plants are no longer under strong light.. I have moved so only choice at the moment is one fluoro tube, soon I move these to windowsill to get stronger day light anyway.

I have not water these for a while, from now on I start to give dry and wet periods. Also I have started to keep the tray open so these are adjusted to dry air also.
Only one seedling I find rotten. Two of them I have take away and graft but later on I see how they attach to pereskiopsis..
Looking good imo.

Probably dehydration or strong light have caused tips to turn purple. I still hold watering to make sure this is dehydration.

I transplanted yesterday seedlings to new pot so they fit to windowsill and take stronger light at summer.
22th of February
I took seedlings out from tray with caution, using spoon is good trick to avoid root damage:

I add new fertile soil small amount to each pot this time:

Pots are ready and very easy to add to the windowsill when it's warm enough and longer days:

There are +100 trichocereus plants total count. Few of them I have take and grafted, I show grafted plant pictures later.

Approx 3months since I sow hybrid trichocereus seeds, Got them from fellow shroomery member, I didn't count the seeds, I sow 3 different hybrids together and so on..
I nurse today some plants.. Also got enthusiastic to take pics from these trichs.
I have label these as "Australia" ..All 3 different cross breed, seeds are from Australia anyway.
I also count the seedlings I don't really know germination rate, I have just count plants there are per one pot. At summer I have more space at windowsill so I move them to sun to have some tan and good growth.
Now these are so far under one 36W fluoro tube style light (some construction work light, CFL)
And the heat mat I use same time on I have my lights on. Over summer, I doesn't use heat mat for these, they are just easier to grow with some extra heat till certain age. Good results with lophs too.
11th day of March pics:
I add small layer of pumicide and regular rocks to support plants.. Under rocky surface, there is some soil and coco coir with perlite and rocks. Because of transplant, I need to add one layer more rocks to every pot surface to keep plants erected.
 Pot number #1 - 33 Seedlings
 Pot number #2 - 26 Seedlings
Pot number #3 - 36 Seedlings So total of 95 own root and +5 grafted to pereskiopsis. I'll show grafted pics later, few of these I have take and just graft and they seems to be succeed.
Random pics, before and after watering

One plant stunted and grow again as offshoot. Usually I see this with lophophora at this age.

Everyone ready for spring and sun light, day time is here about 11hours now and increasing 1hour/week
So I call these as patch "Australia Hybrid" from now on. Very interesting to see what kind of trichs there grow after some time.

I was nursing my seedlings today.. Unlucky happening
So I fucked up and drop pot of seedlings.. I run to take picture before I collect them from floor, back to pot. I tried to add them the way roots doesn't harm much, it' good they're not so young can't handle this.
Because of I have injured left hand, I accidentally dropped pot of plants to ground, there was 36 plats..

I picked up cactus plants carefully without their roots damage much. Few plants was nicely in cluster and so on.

Planted back to pot, soil is bone dry. I wait some time and give good water shower from top for these and let plants grow. Well Accidents happens.. I think there is not much lost plants along them. Luckily I have 2 out of 3 pots of these hybrids ok.

Going on!

Hi there! Some update about..
Pot number #3 plants seems to have survived because I drop pot to the floor.
Pics from 25th of March. I was take pics same time I watered my plants with fresh natural water.
Everyone

Pot number #1

Pot number #2

Pot number #3 (this is the pot what I have fucked up, can be seen at my last update)

Pot #3 ..Seedlings was long time dehydrated, reddish purple coloration because I didn't water them before I was sure roots are okey. Now they starts to get green again.. Afaik no plants died at accident!

Two another pots closer photos

Pot #1, most plants are biggest of everyone of these
Counting to grafted ones, there is 100 plants total.. For some reason own root trichs grow bigger, fatter and faster compared to pereskiopsis grafts. I think they delay some and start growth spurt soon..
Summer is coming, soon I present plants to different climate, no bottom heat, only strong light. I probably build filtered light box and slowly adjust these to light over summer.. These pots I have choose because these fit easily to windowsill. It seems trichs can be transplanted at very young age, I don't suggest, but it's ok if soil is bone dry.
I have kept these long time ago away from humid dome, only above heat mat and under 36W fluoro tube(construction work light and water proof)

Today I soak the soil of my tirch totally and moved them to southern windowsill to my kitchen. These have direct sun light few hours at day now.. I still keep heat mat under the plants without timer.. If it's cold day and no sun shine I can help with heat to plug the pad on.. It's small 10wattage heat pad, just fit enough under these 3 pots.
I find out purple coloration comes mostly from drought, not because too strong light. These really have been under 36W fluoro tube some time.. Now I start give these the real light. Sun..
1st day of April

I think after summer I have to repot these again to separate different looking plant before it's too late. Luckily even I drop one pot to ground as mistake, I don't see there is so much death seedlings because they drop to floor.
No I let nature do it's job.. Soaked soil good and add these to windowsill.. Now it's nice time, constantly clouds pass by the sun and light level constantly goes up and low.. Sun have usually caused trich to start take their appearance.
It's so fun to see these and finally start to treat these like my adults. The perspective of hybrid plants makes this more interesting project.

Some update.
I have let these youngsters baked at southern windowsill 10days, Now I moved them under artificial light after some strong light.
They sure look like they have got maybe too much of sun but it's ok, I just wanted to stress those and introduce to stronger light.. Soon I move these back to windowsill to have stronger light and sun. Now I let these "recover" from 10days baking in sun.
I really feel the top spines are relatively strong and tough for that age plants.. Also color of plants say direct spring sun have probably be too much, well, that's my way to introduce plants to receive stronger light.. Next time I move these back to windowsill is day when it's cloudy and so on.. Then randomly move these to have sun and otherwise keep under fluoro lights..
These are not so adults yet but I can count some ribs from most of them.. There are 5-7 ribs at bigger plants. I soak soil for good only one time during 10time period at windowsill. Plants have enough soil it stays long time moist.
Only thing I am worried that one pot I managed to drop floor and then when I plant those back, some of them are packed to very tight clusters.. One plant I notice there is just tip of plant visible from ground level.. I just wonder when it's "too late" to move these to separate pots, anothers should not be problem but those I have planted again because I drop pot in to the ground I am worried of few clusters but I would not want to disturb them anymore so I let them be as they are.
And now to the pics! taken today 11th day of April 2014

More close up photos from different pots (2nd picture is the pot I have drop to ground and pick seedlings from ground and plant again)
Sun have done some tricks and caused these to take some tan, some plants have maybe have too much sun but now I keep them few days under fluoro again, then slowly adjust these to real sun light.. Still I know these are probably too young to get constantly sun so I decided to move these back under fluoro for a while and then again I move these back and enjoy the sun.. when summer goes on I try to achieve to harden these enough they can be grown under sun and so on.

In this thread are mother plants of these hybrids and also at first post of this thread tell what hybrids there are growing.. I didn't count the seeds how much I had, but I sow them to 3 row's and all of these 3 hybrids have germinated, germination rate was pretty high compared to many trich seeds I have got.. In worst case I have got trichocereus seeds with 5-10% germination rate.. These was way more better and it's very delightful to see how these plants look later on down the road. Only few sudden death seedlings I can remember have occur, few seedlings I have grafted to pereskiopsis but for some reason they're stunted.. I moved those grafted ones to shade and hope they recover, They probably suffered too much sun and I forgot to water those grafted ones.
Well.. There's pics from seedlings baked in sun 10 days, atleast I can feel the top of the seedlings have been in sun, strong spines for these size trichs.
I probably have to transplant these after summer and increase the amount of pots. I don't want to grow these too long as crowded because I don't want these plants root bound together.
My plan is anyway grow 2-4 plant per pot later on when these have more size.. I don't have any extra space to grow but I have one year time to find out where I grow these next season... My plan is transplant these later on to pots and grow few plants what are similar to each others.
So far ~100 plants.. I just don't know what I do after few years. I should prepare some space for these later.
What you guys think about?

I just took pics from seedlings, they have changed their color.
I have start nursing these after few days.. First of all I let them bake in strong spring sun and I kept those 10day at windowsill, now these have been 5days under fluoro and random light from surrounding windows. I have just spray small amount of rain water for these and let them have got some drink..
Seems plants have turn better when light level reduced and change happened in 5 days. I barely water these plants and let them dehydrate some before I water good again.. My "rainwater" is just snow smelted to pure natural water.. It's pretty acidic water compared to tap water.. I don't like to use tap water if I can pick fresh and clean snow to bucket and let it smelt.. Sometimes I collect big Ice chunks from outdoors and let them turn to water in container. Summer time I collect rainwater very much. About tap water of mine, it's pretty clean and barely leave a residues to plant like some tap water do. So it's ok when there is nothing else, it's just pretty alkaline and I need acid water to use.
I have take those pics today morning at 17th of April, 2014.
Single pot pictures:

All hybrids:

I have goal to get these good size enough and acclimatize these to sun by let those bake good under sun at southern window. Light filter would be perfect. I planted these to windowsill pots but it's too intense sun for these young trichs.
Some ribs starts visible at very top of seedlings. There all have approx 5-8ribs what starts to form.. I try to grow these pretty hard grown ones and many times I have let plants to shrink and get purple because lack of heat. But when I give nice shower of water they turn to very green and full of life living young plant.
I just try to test what age these are ready to take direct sun.. I am sure I probably transplant these after winter time have started and try to add about 10-15 plants per pot, now it's about 30 plant per pot approx. But this summer I let these grow and see how they do at fall and what size they are when dormant season starts. Winter drough is good time to transplant seedlings and my grown seedlings are usually adjusted to same care and watering what more older plants do. These trichs are just so easy to grow root bound, especially if there is lots of crowded plants. If they are too long next to another, they're really root bound and simply just hard to get separted.
I have think to start planting these to few pots.. I move seedlings based on appearance at proper age and see how it goes. This just stressing, I have no more room for cactus than these 10x10cm pots.. Too crowded garden. Lophophora plants I have kept under very strong sun and they tolerate strong sun very good.. They are just at shade of most other plants and therefor not so much light but strong light enough.
Probably late season these plants have time to move containers and do 10-13 plants per container. Slowly I need to move these separately to avoid them grow too much attached to near by plants from roots. I see in one year or two, I have stuff to do with these.
I have just fertilized these by spraying fertilizers from top and let soil get moist at surface but not totally.. I have mixed some dark and fertile soil with high Nitrogen amount.. When I moved these to 3 containers, I add some dark soil to coco coir and rock mix to act as fertilizer in soil over the time. I never use organic material when grow from seed. Usually I add organic soil to growing medium is time when I transplant or so and I always add new fertile soil in to the mix..
My oldest trichs grow basically in in soil where I don't use coco coir so much.. Still I fertilize my trichs very usually at summer.. Now it's just waiting and adjusting to let these hybrids be possible to have them over summer used to be under direct sun.. Or I try to build some shade cloth to give strong but diffused light to all.

Pics from 2nd day of May 2014
I have kept these two week under fluoro and move these back to sun light and take pics same time.
Some plants starts form ribs. One pot what I managed to drop and plants was around my floor seems they're smaller but I just planted them more deeper than another. So far these do pretty good. I have so far count ribs from 5 to 8. Differences are probably visible better at next season.

I think these are soon proper size to be able take direct sun at windowsill. Today sun shines but these are going to have only evening sun. I probably need to transplant these after this season to be able separate plants from others. Depends how much these grow over summer. I have been quite careful with water and these barely got water under fluoro tube light over 2 weeks. These have been many times pretty dehydrated but managed to survive with few drops of water. I am trying to acclimatize these to sun light and away from heat mat over summer.. I need those heat mats for younger seedlings anyway and these seems to do fine without excess heat so far. That's one reason I have not watered them so much because I need to learn watering again because heat mat tend to dry soil faster. I use heating only for mexican desert cactus plants from seedling to adults.. Trichs will have extra heat only first months.

Plants have taken sunshine without water almost 2 weeks and suffered some dehydration. I soak soil completely from all pots and took some pictures. Seems I need more rocks to surface to get every plant stand vertical. They tend to bend towards light.
15th day of May, 2014
All plants at window after watering at pic where they are at windowsill. Rest pics are taken closer. Pretty dehdrated and and seems they have got some sun.. These should plump up soon.

I've think to repot these during dormancy and try to find more space for plants.. I am in trouble with space because trichs grow too big and I have 100 plants of these.
Very interesting to grow someones hybrids and seen their parents pics posted to this thread.
There are 3 different hybrids mostly pachanoi/bridgesii based plants.

I happened to spot odd growth.. Seems it's cresting.
Plant was hard to photograph perfectly but it's not similar to others..

I can't see the growth tip similar to other plants, Would be nice to have crested trich! Time will tell what happens with this. Maybe during dormant time I transplant this away from anothers if I see it continues this odd growth..
Pics doesn't show perfectly about deformation of seedling..
I need to continue follow this. yay!

I've sown seeds at 11th day of November, 2013.
I have grow them under lights, now they are growing at south facing windowsill. Next winter I give them first dormancy.

Some update
Plants have been at windwosill now, with very cautious watering.
Yesterday I water 'em and today took some pics.
These are approx 7months old or so.

They sure starts to tolerate summer sun. I don't use anymore heating mat for these because sun heat enough for trichs. Watering is very random and I let plants shrink and go soft before water again.
One had minor root rot but seems it have healed, I will see.. If it dies because yesterday watering, so be it.. Also the odd plant are more and more like a crested, I sure need to repot these before dormancy.
I want that odd seedling away before it form too much root bound with another plants.
So far so good. No need to use artificial light anymore. Also there are no official night time anymore.

Some update, I took pics from these same time I snap other pics. Seems I can soon confirm that one is really mutant, probably crested. I've think when I transplant these before they grow attached another too much from roots. My plan is to move these to 5-7 same size pots.. With 5 pots there would be ~20 plants per pot. But no rush yet..
I haven't watered these for a while and they're pretty dehydrated and soft but it's ok. I like to control the growth by let the shrink before new watering. I have not much of a space to use
12th day of June:

Some pics of suspected crested seedling, atleast it have more wide than height and no regular pattern of ribs like others. I tried to accurate pics but it's hard because seedling is small and surrounded of more columnar seedlings, what you guys think about that?

There are some extra picture of seedling pot from random trichs round europe.. These are just some survivors from very low germination rate seed sows....t. bridgesii, pachanoi, peruvianus, hybrids etc...
I don't even know their age. Just got some bad germinating seeds and only few plants have risen and I grow them in one pot.. These are maybe 2-5week older than trichs in pictures I've updated there.

Again new pics, now plants are full of water.. I give these some fertilzers two days ago.. Before that I'v keep plant in dry..
Basically my watering goes like this: When plants seems they are soft and can't stand on teir own because of dehydration, I soak the soil for good.. so I someway try to get hard grown trichs..
Anyway, pictures from these plants after they have drink some fertilizer water and plump up.. Now they are firm, erected and nice, last pictures I've posted here contains pics where are dehydrated trichs.
 Now happy trichs, enjoying sun!
Then 3 separate pots, one what looks like there is smaller plants, is the pot what I've drop to my apartment floor, picked plants slowly and planted back and some of them got buried very deep.
Picture 1 and 3 have pots what have never been disturbed after transplanted to these 10x10cm pots. Picture number 2 have pot what have fall to my house floor and I have picked seedlings and planted them again and some of them got buried pretty deep, that's reason why they seems they are smaller. Basically planted two times to same pot.

Yea, they really look like trichs! I've think to transplant these before dormancy, 5 pots would be cool so I can plant 20 plants per one pot.. In good luck I can get one pot per 10 plant
I hope these ain't so much grown together from roots.. If so, I need to plant clusters and try to separate them carefully.. Feels I can't wait what appearance of plants these will become after few years
Sun is shining, I don't use anymore bottom heating, I stopped heating about month ago or so.

1st of July
Probably this is cresting.

Gonna transplant these over winter when they hibernating, it have been work always.

17th day of July.
Plants are very dehydrated, I give 'em a full soak of water today.

Every plant at their spot in house.

I give photos from possible crested(at least not normal growth) seedling when these youngsters plump up.. It has been grown some.

You should try and graft the crested or at least pot it singly. If it is really crested, it will lag and eventually perish amidst the others.

I know..
I've just planned about to take +5 pots and add them separately to ~20 plant per pot.
That different plant I take away to on it's own small pot. I don't want to graft it.
My plan is to get these separated to 10-20 plants per pot or less at least before next season and ofc separate the funny one away from there and see how's it going alone. I can say for sure, never seen similar trich seedling as "normal" that's something different for sure. It's hard to photograph because it's so small and others are so big plants.
But that may turn back to columnar or maybe in luck some kind of mutt growth.. I've looked it so close with magnifying class, it seems there is trich seedling "pup" from top and growth is cresting at the moment.. Also for sure I've think to move it away from another plants, it grows slower than another plants, so something is going on with that one.

I may think about it, pm me. I don't promise anything but we can talk about that in private.
It's a fact in few years, I don't have any room for most of these plants, trichs grow too big.
Best plants I'll collect to myself and so on!

Now I have done transplant, separated that mutt seedling away from others.. Wow how much roots they have!
26th day of July, 2014. Crested plant separated on it's own small pot.

I have been think this forward and used very cheap plastic pots so I break one to get plants easier away.

Roots, perlite, rocks and coco coir.

Shaking some plants to get them seprated. *tap tap shrub* *shikidikikidi snap*

I am sure this is cresting, now it's easier to see. At first photo crested plant are attached from roots to other plants, then I succeed to get it off.

All plants from pot and crested planted to 5cm round pot. Seedlings have separated to 3 different pots from one pot.. Two pots left!
I have now 3 separate pots done from one pot, forgot to take picture but I have time for it.
Measuring tape near seedlings, one is almost 2cm fat but not biggest tho.

Mutant near measuring tape.

Next time I will write about how's this project have succeed and probably start separate two another pots to get these all separated before winter. I've done 3 pots from one so now I have 5 pots of these, 2 pots need to be separated so result is going to be ~8-10 seedling pots.
Any toughs about? (I don't even dare to graft it, it grows fast enough without)
I give update when I water my transplanted seedlings, also I give some update how's that mutt doin'
I still think about that crest, I have got 100% success with grafting to pereskiopsis, would be nice to speed up this lil' cactus but I someway like mutants on their own roots if possible. I'll see.. Next year would be better time to follow that. I moved that mutt under fluoro light and warm spot to heal, others I moved back to windowsill. Got approx 10 plants per pot or so. Not so crowded anymore! Trichs sure isn't like lophs, I wish I have +100 small pots and big area to grow to get every plant on their own pot, but it's not reality for me...
Afterall I choose only best looking plants to myself. My first crested seedling ever!!

7th day of August. I watered plants two days ago, also those what I separated from one pot to 3 pots.
Two 10x10cm pots seems they need transplant.. Roots are probably very hard to get easily off. Soon when I have time I'll transplant everyone before winter.

And mutt growing alone for now on.

14th day of August, I moved my mutt away from artificial lights and let it have some sun before winter comes. After transplant I kept this in dry soil and under fluoro lights some days. Now it's watered.
To get idea of size, pot for plant is just 5cm(2inch) diameter.
I should transplant the other plants as well soon..

Crested plant are from this only pot I accidentally dropped to my floor few months ago.

I moved all under fluoro light.. I let plants to recover from transplant. It takes 2 hours to do this..
Nice roots. I broke these pots when I don't need them anymore so plants are easy to transplant.

Some plants during process..

One plant I moved alone to one small pot.

All trichs recovering and I will water them once more before winter.

Lookin good! I can't wait for a few months to pass and my hybrids actually have spines and look like cacti. Currently only about 3 weeks in since planting. Little green blobs right now.

I moved them to get some sun along the bigger trichs, if sun shines at all.. Also I saved some space by arrange the plants around bigger ones, also they got some shade from others... Hope these get used to strong sun next summer. I only mist those plants with water and didn't done yet full soak to soil because I want to wait roots are really recovered.

Another plant started to act weird and forms small coming pup from it's top.. Pics doesn't tell so much what kind of top the plant have. Very odd. Hard to say what happens in future tho.
Few plants have transplanted alone to small pots.
08/23/2014
 --

Crested plant and second pic it's near another seedling.

If that funny pupping continues in future, plant may look fun.. But it may just be regular plant anyway..

It's been a while since I have take pics from these plants. I watered some plants and take pictures same time.
09/06/2014 I have picked some plants on their own pots what I'll keep myself, rest plants I don't have room for will go away to another growers.

And some plants waiting to be donated and packed for distribution to fellow growers since I have no room to grow much trichocereus..

What you guys think? Could this phenomena continue with this funny plant? ...We'll see is this mutation or not.
I have seen smaller seedlings grow a pup from top but this reduced rib amount till it can't grow and it continues by growing pup. Ribs reduced like TBM:s do till it doesn't have anymore possibility to grow without making new branch. I'll hope this continue, would be nice form! I have never seen this size trich start to do this.. do anyone else have seen trichs behave like that at this age?
Pics taken few days ago from crest plant. It's so small and grows slower than others, photographing isn't so easy because plant is still pretty small and on it's own roots.
Pics from both side of cresting seedling taken 09/01/2014

And I'll continue soon.. There's warmer than usually and very sunny. I think grow season goes lil' bit longer but soon these plants going to be in dormant, I just need to wait sun goes away.

If so.. out of approx 100 plant (I didn't count the seeds) gives two mutants, one is for sure.. That second may be.
I'll sure post pics.. Would be nice if it's some sort of funny mutt. It still growing as fast as any other.
There starts to be visible some genetic difference.. After next season it's more visible do I have two o one mutant.

It kind of looks like the growing tip terminated, similar to how the Trichocereus 'Sausage plant' does. It's either that trait or the apical tip was damaged and it's pupping, which I doubt as you can clearly see how the apical areole has terminated. Cool to see you got a couple of freaks.

Ye thanks! I was thinking first about damage but it can be clearly seen it's just shut down the rib growth and then pup from top. Ribs seems so go very "spiral" and reduce amount of them at top but I can't say is that just normal.. So small plants are hard to say what is normal and what not, they may do funny tricks.
It was so hard time to try take picture like that so it can seen how ribs will vanish and how the top of the plant is just all right.
Would be fun if it's somekind of "sausage"-mutant.. or something.. Growth speed is same to other plants so this possible mutt will grow faster.. Only dat crested seedling is very slow. It started actually similar way but it pup a cresting top from small seedling.
These aussie-seeds have got best germination than any trichocereus seeds tho.. Journey to my hands have been long but don't know how long.. I'm jealous to Australian environment and climate. I'm not jealous to toxic bugs

You've got more chances of getting killed by a human than you do by animals and insects down here. Most animals and snakes run away when you see them. Don't let nature scare you from visiting.

I've forgot to take better pic from crest cactus, just watered it some days ago because sunny days. It really starts to drink water now. Feels it grows nice roots atm.
It have been grown some. There have been nice sunny days but not so hot anymore than summer(+30..+40C day time indoors)
Now some +20..+28C temps are going to be during day, I have stop watered my plants anymore to prevent etiolation till sun goes away fast soon.
09/09/2014
It's almost 1" wide and some 1,5cm tall or so. Cactus receive same amount of light what my biggest cacti have. Watering I have done carefully because it had small roots when I transplant it. Seems it starts now taking more water but anyway, winter is coming and I don't want to loose this to rot. Still.. I have think about moving this under CFL light few months and let it have some 2-3month dormancy during cold winter months.

Some dormant time pictures, next pics I start to take when grow season starts again. These are at zone of approx +18C..+22C temps, depends how cold it is outdoors. I have only sprayed some water for them but not much at all, these are not at coldest spot in my grow area.
I have donated lots of plants around community because I have obviously no room to grow so much trichocereus plants. I hope those people who have got seedlings from me are satisfied and like to grow cactus plants...
10/21/2014

This crested plant I have will receive some 14/10hour light cycle under 72Wattage of fluoro tubes.. I give it some dormancy before summer but let it grow some, it's a bit slow grower compared to others.

I'm very interested that one plant, it terminated growth tip and grew pup above the cactus, very interesting to see how it does, do I probably have two hybrid mutts.

Moar pics will come as fast as sun starts to rise above horizon again, sun goes down and away so fast.
Finally I am free of duty to take care of any cactus plant several months. But anyway, I can't wait spring starts.. hahah.

Some early x-mas update!
I have been cloned cresting plant. But actual cresting spot haven't been cut. Only time will tell do these two grow cresting or what. Probably root them on their own after summer or somethig. Never planned to cut actual Crest section from this. (Other plants you'll see when season starts, most of them have anyway already in USA. wink.
I haven't give dormancy for this. It's very small due to slow growth compared to other trichs from these austalian hybrid seeds. Anyway, I t stated to have 6 columns with one cresing, so I have cut (at different time) two columns and gafted them to pereskiopsis. I have only 72Wattage fluoro light, it's enough over winter. I just keep this thirsty, not watering more than 2-3 times over winter, usually when it's very dry soil and plant goes soft. Otherwise it will have unecessary etiolation due to lack of light power.
12/18/2014 Picture.

12/18/2014 Pic from abobe. 5cm pot.

12/18/2014 Grafts (another is about 1,5month "older" as graft.

Pereskiopsis gaft was very easy. I used this kind of humid dome and heat mat. I didn't use any pressure, just make clean cut with kitchen knife and then add seedling on top of pereskiopsis.
At this picture I have some lophs and astrophytum plants, testing to grow them in pure coco coir, with strong fertilizers. Just for testing and adjusting them to strong fertilized soil from the day one.
So grafts happened inside that under 72W fluoro light, Dome have holes for air circulation. I just kept top hole closed. I haven't fail yet with this tek of using pereskiopsis as graft stock for young seedlings. Only isopropyl alcohol(to clean knife) + heat + humidity for one week and always seedlnigs have attached.
Now I have 3 clones of this, let's hope those grafts turn to crested or some sort of mutts!

I'm using 72W CFL light with 16/8hour cycle for these.
While other spent dormancy. My crested seedling have got some artificial light and sections I have taken out from it seems to do fine, I'll probably root them on their on when they reach size after summer.
01/23/2015

I don't keep these under humid dome anymore. Haven't kept for a while. I have been think a possibility these may go cresting at some point of their life.. Or not.. still clones from cresting seedlnig. I don't want to cut crested section to be grafted anytime soon..

I can't wait how that Crest section starts to grow when I cut off rest of the columns off and move it in to sun at coming spring!
----------EDIT 01/24/2015----------
Rest plants I have spread around the world or they are reserved, but here is from now on all I got. Going to grow these and everyone is on their own pot! These have been spent time ~2meter far away from 150W HID Bulb. It's been on use some 2weeks now.
I have only water spray'd only few times these plants as well.
Avg temperatures have been +22C day and +17C night or so.

03/06/2015 UPDATE
I have soak every plant soil with water one time and first time this year.
Some plants I have left, no etiolation over winter. Except those grafted to pereskiopsis. (they are just "fingers" cut off from crested cactus. I managed to take 2 and graft them to pereskiopsis plant. When they have length enough, I root them to grow on their own. Hopefully these too may be mutants as well.. They are from same crested section..
Picture above have two sections from that crested cactus grafted to pereskiopsis. Two clones and one mother plant.
In pics can be seen very much how slow this crested cactus grows. Colunar sections is mostly cut off and grafted like I said. Only one "finger" from cactus keep on cresting, others start to grow columns. I prefer to let plant grow only crested section.

Crested cactus pot is 2inch(5cm) diamater. It's been under fluoro lights (72Wattage) over winter. Today watered as well and moved to sunny windowsill. It was pretty high temps today.
If possible; Those community members who have got these hybrids´from me can post photos later here from these plants. I have some 20% of the plants left, totally ~80% I basically donated around to shroomery users to grow. Hope you post pics here after significant growth have occur and so on. It may later on make this thread more interesting!
Do anyone know how likely it is those clones from this cresting cactus may turn to crested later?

Given enough time and I'm sure it will turn crest later. I have like 3 or 4 columns, or how you put it 'fingers', from my crested peruvianus that are not crest. I don't doubt they will grow roots, grow tall and eventually turn back to crest.
Was that crest baby just random trich seed or were they seed of crested cacti? Sorry if I missed that but that's pretty awesome IL. I can't wait for my babies of mutant parents to go crest or monstrose or just something really cool.

Was that crest baby just random trich seed or were they seed of crested cacti? Sorry if I missed that but that's pretty awesome IL. I can't wait for my babies of mutant parents to go crest or monstrose or just something really cool.
All plants in this thread is mixed hybrids of australian seeds. scopulicola/pachanoi/bridgesii genetics.
At first pages you can see pics from some mother plants. At my first post is list of trichocerues hybrids I have grown.
I was planned to grow enough big with these pereskiopsis, then root on its own later.
This(crested cactus) is just accident, I got seeds from this forum, didn't count them but end up with +100 plants and send them other people mostly. Only keeping few.
I call them "fingers" because at one picture cactus look like "hand" and because they are so small they are more like fingers than columns. Column as a word feels to me it's big enough or something.. Anyway, english isn't my native language anyway.
Thanks for your comments dude.

Yeah I kinda figured that. They look great man. I too have enjoyed grafted trichs to pereskiopsis. I feel them to be a little easier than say astrophytum. To this day I have had no luck with them. But it's a learning process. Live and learn my man. Live and learn.

People who have received plants from me: Feel free to upload pictures from these plants to this thread to get more pictures from all of these hybrids.
And plaese: add month/day/year to know when pictures have been taken.
I would like to see how they do later on..
Would like to see later on pictures from these plants from people who have received them.

Just read through this, thanks for documenting your grow
Very cool read, and also quite helpful, thanks!
I can't wait until I have some nice and big healthy cacti like you, that crested one is awesome too!
I am sprouting some monstros seeds and have hopes for some cool mutations
Cacti are so amazing, and those look like some great genetics

Cresting cactus. Grows relatively slow. Managed to get two cuttings out from this to pereskiopsis. 03/26/2015 pictures from crested cactus, both sides to give better idea of it. Pot is 2inch diam.
crested mother plant. I have cut clones and grown them to pereskiopsis from this. Hope they turn to form like original cresting clone!

And small sections grafted to pereskiopsis and grown for some reson relatively slim. I need to wait a bit more before I cut these off and plant on their own roots. These columns are both exact same clone. I just cut columnar sections off to leave only cresting part to original plant. (well it's size of seedling)
If this plant have genetics to get start growing crested, these cuttings should do it. So far they have grown pretty ugly, slim and column. But same clone than cresting mother plant on it's own roots.

I give these two cuttings (I managed to propagate from this mutt) to person who give me these seeds.
Growth speed is very slow with crested compared to other cacti from those seed bags. I don't know why pereskiopsis graft caused those small tips to grow like that and so slim columns. How possible it is these clones can eventually start cresting over the time? if motherplant is crested? I'm not any expert with pereskiopsis but I had no other choice to graft small sections to pereskiopsis. Cut sections can be seen at mother plant. so Or should I graft cresting section to get crested plant. These have all grown very odd o I think these two small grafts grow mutts, but they have grown as colums.

So.. I started watering these young ones when it was nice sunny days.. Then suddenly came hard frosts and indoor temps were +10C night, +20C day.. Few of these didn't manage it. They are only cacti I lost this spring to sudden cold temps after sunny period. Drinking water some time, going ok.. But didn't manage almost 2week lasting cold and damp. They have been rotten long time. Well few blue myrtle stocks died as well to cold, then some cereus columns as well but not all. These had also problems with climate isn't so hot..
Picture is taken 04/04/2015
Root/base rot, mother nature chosen victims.
I didn't try prevent cold and damp to make sure I have good ones living, tolerating climate here.
Rest plants are ok. Toughest seems to survive here.. It's still outdoors -10C frosts. Night time greatly under +20C and day time when sun shines is +30C or more. Non sunny days it's still <+25C ..Average temps at cloudy days have been +20C or so.
Well I didn't had room for them anyway..
Damn I like these nature wipe off genetics can't manage. They could have been died later on as well.. It's good to have only those survive cold and moist periods as well.
Pics 04/13/2014 from survivors. Mites seems to have eaten some tips of these over winter.
One of these have very bad sun shock spots but it doesn't show at pics.

And crested plant doing fine.
10 plants(+crested one) left. Rest of them (+80 plants) have new home. I have taken extra care of crested one anyway. Grows slower.

Pics 07/05/2015

Winter here was rough for these australians and they had mites as well easier. Spring was very cold and damp. These have survived. Rest of the plants have new home. (I don't have space to grow so much trichs)
Crested. It's relatively hard grown one.

Clones from Crested cactus at pereskiopsis.

I've left only crested section growin on it's own root.
Don't know what happens with clones, but they have crested mom.

Update from crested seedling. I've need to cut offshoots and colums off. Seems to do well. Crested growth is better when I've removed other "normal" parts of the plants away. It have tried to pup from base but I've cut all off, only leaving crested part. It seems to get growth speed after I cut pups or colums.
09/03/2015 - Pics from both side. 5cm pot. (2inch)

Thanks for all the info intelligentlife it's really helpful. I have a trich crest (seems double-headed) seedling about 5-6 months old and plan on doing a transplant soon.
Was debating waiting until next year but LSoares suggests transplanting would help it survive so I'll do that.

Bad quality pic from crested seedling.. I have shit camera atm.
Plant have grown very much towards ground and picture doesn't give full perspective of the plant. Some reference it show how it's been grown anyways.
Two cuttings (grafted ones) grows columnar.

I'll tell you when you originally IDed it as a possible crest I was in doubt but now I see I was wrong.
Great Job IL

Great Job IL
I've cut off 4 columns and one pup from base of it by leaving cresting section only to grow.
Well... It was easier to see with bare eye compared to pics tho. It had 5 "heads" and one was crested. Grafted two column heads, tossed 2 as well as I toss the pup before winter.
It's kinda dehydrated since I haven't watered it much at all.. It doesn't receive direct sun till end of april again. Haven't seen sun for a while.
Always is new summer anyway.
I didn't took pics from other seedlings since my camera on cellphone sucks.
Photoperiod for plant is 3hours sun, 21hours dark atm. Soon is completely dark for a while. All my plants indoors at windowsill have gone stunted and no growth. They all go by the rules of sun. Even temps may be +22C occasionally. Depends how cold it is outdoors. Major frosts cause temps decrease at windowsill near 0C. Last winter coldest temps was -4C near window. Few days ago was +7C.
Here cactus plants starts to grow when UV-Radiation starts to get over index 1 and they go stunted when UV-Radiation is gone. Even temps may be high randomly because I heat my house over cold winter.
My mood goes as well by the cycle of sun, as well as plants seems to do it here.
