When I plug my headphones into my laptop, all music sounds hollow?! WTF
    #19192819 - 11/26/13 04:13 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

this is beyond me, Im a computer major and this issue has me stumped. Everything was fine until about last night. I plugged in my headphones after work and was gonna finishing mastering this track but now everything sounds distant, hollow and has like no bass whatsoever. At first thought was the headphones maybe but tried both pairs in my phone and ipod. Everything is A ok with the headphones.

Any thoughts?

Maybe just cheap headphones? Or maybe the lack of an echo?

A setting may be off in Windows sound effects or whatever it's called. Try right-clicking the speaker icon in the tray.

Nah like I said, my headphones are pretty solid and they work just fine in my ipod and my phone.

This happened to someone I knew once and it was what I just described. Per a quick Google search... Sounds -> Enhancesments

I get that hollow sound when my headphone cable isn't plugged in all the way, making full contact.  Usually just rotating it or pushing it in will fix it but I'd assume you already tried that so:

Try a 90% ISO soaked Q tip and try cleaning out the inside of the headphone jack on the laptop; it may not be making full contact due to corrosion or debris inside the jack itself.

Your audio jack isn't putting out quality sound.

it's probably a physical issue rather than a software issue.

I had to get a USB to aux connection when this happened to me.

I've experienced that before, sounds like everything is in far field, means the connections bad
If your phones are good then it will be your audio out, try some electrical cleaner spray or similar

Here's my real question:

Why is OP mastering an audio track from a laptop headphone jack straight to a pair of headphones?

Prolly.

Can anyone recommend a good set of speakers that connect via USB?
