My WBS has cracked corn and it works just fine.
Just have to pay attention when boiling/simmering, or just skip the boil/simmer all together.

IMO, the greater the proportion of Millet, the better the seed mix. And the lesser the proportion of Sunflower. Millet is my 3rd favorite grain for growing

Those are the biggest pain in the ass! They ruin pet food too! Any open bag of grain gets infested with those pieces of shit!

My bags of seed never get the chance to sit around, that is awful though. Been thinking about switching because they put little broken up rocks in the mix and when you get to the bottom of the bag it is pretty bad. Mycelium does like it though so not much of an issue, considering the price.

No....Whenever I open a bag of WBS the remaining seeds get stored in a 5 gallon bucket with an oring in the lid.....completely sealed.

I refer to WBS as leverite. Leave her right where you found her.
If you have that much trouble ordering stuff just look for rye or millet or milo.

Weird, I have bugs all over, inside and outside the house (it's an old house, and I dig alot), but have never found bugs in the seed. Ime the wallmart brand tends to be the best, though I don't know if it varies per location. I think all wbs I've used has some cracked corn in it, but I do avoid brands that have a lot. Lowes for instance I got the other day and made a mess out of it because it had a bunch of corn. Corn is fine, but it tends to hydrate easier than most grains and thus turns to mush faster, just be careful with your boil. I would recommend against strait millet if you haven't done grain before because it can be hard to hydrate properly due to its small size.

Not sure where you are. But, even though it says it's not in stock locally, I always find it in supply at my Walmart. It's the kind I use as well and works well. I just get rid of the floaters and it works great. Good luck.

That's what I've been using. $8.69 for 20# at sprawly-world. I just switched from rye. I might switch back though. I haven't decided.

If you can get rye locally for about the same price I'd say go for it.
Really though your probably not going to find a cheaper option.
The question is, which is more nutritious? rye or wbs
I know some people including myself do a 1:1 ratio spawn/sub for the nutritive benefits when using coir. In an attempt to get poo like results.

Have you checked Azure Standard ? They have truck routes, you just have to go meet the truck when it rolls by . Rye is SO MUCH better than WBS.It's just easier to work with . I'm waiting on the truck now so I had to go buy a bag of cheap bird seed. Ugh...I don't miss it at all.

I know some of the grow supply companies are kind of expensive and I wouldn't want to be waiting on something, but rye just seems somewhat pricier, I think WBS is appealing because it's cheaper, I guess it depends where you get the Rye tho, it's not necessarily easy to come by.
