im interested in using fuel pellets to grow primary decomposers. I would like to start with pleurotus ostreatus and ganoderma lucidum. Does anyone know of worthwhile successes with other species and wood fuel pellets??.
As a starting point I was planning on using the old Lipa's pellet tek. Does anyone know of good teks and/or supplemental ideas that would complement lipa's tek??

I've grown oysters, reishi, lions mane, shiitake, maitake, and agrocybe aegrita on doug-fir wood pellets. If you want to supplement your sawdust blocks then remember to sterilize them.

So lion's mane (H. erinaceus) doesn't mind douglas-fir? I'd read it didn't like conifers, so that's good to know! (I've only seen douglas-fir pellets for sale so far and was getting worried since my spawn is going to be ready in a few days.)

These lions manes were grown on unsupplemented 100% douglas fir pellets.

No, I usually pick them before the teeth elongate that much.
This one was harvested shortly after this pic.

Yeah that's what I've read you're supposed to do. Only grown a couple times. I've never eaten them when they grew out like that though, is the taste difference noticeable?

Oh, and to the OP I've grown lion's mane, all colors of oysters, reishi, turkey tails, and shiitake on 100% hardwood fuel pellets. Basically everything in my gallery. All have done pretty well. Beech did poorly, but I don't know if it was the pellets or something else. Been using Lipa's tek with great success for all those grows as well, it's a great write-up.
