Just because you have a college education doesn't mean anything, q, if the economic opportunity isn't there for you, as a graduate, your critical thinking skills will allow you to find a decent paying job for the most part.

"critical thinking skills"

Exactly, which will help you when they TRAIN you for your position.

How did "uneducated" people in the 50's-80's do so well in the workforce?  They were trained for the position after they got hired, no formal education was needed.

qman, do you realize how ridiculous your statement is when you say "we don't need any more educated people?"

Why?  If the economic opportunities do not support a overly educated workforce, why should everyone pursue higher education?

you have it completely backwards. the question you're actually looking for is:

why should we, and why WOULD WE continue supporting a system which does not recognize the importance of a higher education? and one which does not support the pursuit of a higher education in the major workforce?

here's how you get people motivated to do stuff. NOT by cutting taxes, NOT by making more meaningless jobs. you do it by giving people an opportunity to pursue the things they have most passion about. people are driven to create naturally, the incentive will come when the opportunity is presented. that is, if they have the time, will and energy for it.

how are we supposed to work together to improve the world, if all our time is spent alone in cubicles, or focusing on our menial jobs to support our lifestyles of self-saturation, material collection, and putting up walls to separate ourselves from the rest of the world. we ignore all personal responsibility to help improve the world, and put it all on everyone else.

we focus on one thing and one thing only, supporting me. making money for me. collecting things for me. pursuing an education for me. ME ME ME ME ME. hey, how about we start doing things for everyone, and not just for ourselves? maybe we can help improve things for everyone if we put some more focus into the benefit of everyone involved here, and not just ourselves and those who think similarly to us

it's already been proven that creativity in the workplace creates better and more innovative products and business; and thusly creates more money and jobs.

but society is so backasswards that, WE LITERALLY DO NOT CARE, in favor of being stupid and feeling fine with that.

frankly, i'm proud that i have not produced a single CENT for this world. because this world deserves to burn, with how ignorant and stupid people are; and i'd be glad not to contribute to it.

Probably most people that work all the time don't give a flying fuck about the future they just want something to distract them from their horrible horrible lives.

why fight a losing fight?

this isn't captivity... this is ACCEPTANCE of a bad situation.

i am opting for resigned non-acceptance.  :resignednonacceptance:

unless you can somehow explain to me how i, as one person, can help convince people that their lives are inherently meaningless, and that to better themselves, they have to stop striving for their individual purposes outside of oneness and work for one another as a capable and literally pre-determined body of resonance which can live in sustenance and peace, as long as we can dig the marrow from the Earth.

PS: i didn't say people were backwards for not caring, i said they were backwards HENCE their non-caring.

when i said people were backwards, i was talking about the fact that creativity in the workplace (and otherwise) allows for a better outlook both on life, and wealth and availability of jobs for the working man; and how people don't work towards that or care to.

see i just devote myself to art, for society, because you can create your own meaning out of art, and in this meaningless world which people abstain from pleasure to attain "a meaning or purpose in life", MY work towards this is only for myself, and if anyone else likes it, they can have it. for that gives me MY purpose, in purposelessness.

check this out. i have a job that allows me to wear headphones at work. it's great, i can listen to whatever i want. podcasts, startalk radio, terence mckenna, ram dass, and the entire time, i'm doing tasks. they're not meaningless, because they each serve a function and a purpose. but to me and my personal growth and development as a spiritual being, the task seems meaningless in that context. however, in my head i am listening to things which ARE conducive to my creativity, and ARE contributing to my growth and expansion as a spiritual being. i learn something new every day because of this. i consider myself extremely lucky and privileged and GRATEFUL (i work for a company called "grateful bread", lolz) to be allowed to wear headphones while working. this is a badass company i happened to find, a rare gem i found through craigslist and guess what YOU CAN TOO. it's a matter of not settling for less than what you prefer.

get out there, discover the world, and find a way of living that IS conducive to YOUR personal growth, and only then will you be able to contribute anything meaningful to society, or to yourself even.

and you obviously have done this. you are immersing yourself in your passion, which is art. and you are contributing your talent and skill to society, through creative expression. the pursuit of art in human society is just as important as the pursuit of science. they go hand-in-hand as the driving forces of modern development.

but it won't do much good to be a pessimistic ninny, moping about how the world can't be a certain way because of how f'd up errthang is. change won't come until personal change happens in EVERYBODY

WE create the world, there are no invisible forces controlling the systems. they are as imaginary as whatever it is that makes these words come out. it is within all of us, and changing it is as easy as changing a definition or an idea. we give meaning to things by how we define them. and if you chose to define the world as meaningless, then you will perceive the world as meaningless. it is as simple as that. we create the meaning and guess what? the universe created us. the universe was originally meaningless but through billions of years of evolution, humans gave rise to a fantastical world of meaning and mental structures beyond your wildest dreams. this created all you now see in the world. may that still be meaningless? perhaps. but our ability to experience unconditional love, and return to unity after feeling separation, these are experiences unique to humans. and we give meaning to those profound experiences in our OWN ways.

the world is yours. DEAL WIT IT  :bobmarley:

i'm working on it everyday. i find meaning in things that i do, but it's not towards an end goal that'll satisfy anyone but myself, because that's what earns you a spot on the lawn.

which leads to the problems of the world, to begin with.

PS: Grateful Breads LOL, i've heard of them before; from here maybe? from you?

i swear i heard of them... weird.
