Will regular Ziploc bags withstand a pressure cooker?

No, they'll melt.  You want oven bags, or better yet autoclave bags.

Why do people have such a hardon for mason jars then. Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper and easier to use tupperware. You could fit a lot more in one of those too.

Well jars are much more rugged and easy to handle when your shaking and breaking up your myc clumps. That might be a reason. And alot of people have actually gone over to bags from jars. Thinking of doing it myself. Think maybe they might be easier to breakup and mix.

autoclavable bags usually come with a sfd patch on them. If not you make one .

Absolutely wrong
If you're saying "more" than Bags, definitely not, you can knead bags and get it done far more easily and safely than banging jars against something.
If you're saying "more" than tupperware, definitely not, recycling code 5 plastics sterilize quickly and 'give' a bit when you're breaking up their contents. It's easy to break-up grains and nearly impossible to break good containers first.

Bags are pretty cool but sterilization times are really long.
Also inoc must be done quite carefully, and I would recommend sterile laminar airflow?

Yeah I know bags are easier to breakup. Or atleast I assume. I havent switched over yet but I am after I use up what I already have pc'd.

I meant rugged as in lasting through many many reuses. I would assume that plastic containers would wear out faster. Again just a guess.

Why would you reccommend any more sterile procedure for noccing a bag than you would a jar? I mean it dont matter cause I got a flowhood anyways but just curiouse. Or however you spell that. I have ship lids for my jars and would use bags with ships aswell so I would think its the same.

Also for those out there that dont have a laminar flowhood, what i use to do was sterilize my over at 400 for 20 minutes or so then open it up, pull out a rack and work in the airflow from the oven. Dont know what the vets are going to say about this but it worked for me . Never got a contam. (nocking on wood again)

idk why everyone says you have to pc spawn bags longer than jars. I pc 4-6 quarts in extra large bags for 90min @ 15psi just like anything else. Works just fine.

I would aswell. Though I know its not what he actually said but for some reason I took it he/she was actually talking about pasteurization. It does take longer for bags to reach core temp or so ive read. Never used jars for pasteurization.

The problem I have had with pp5 is that
the lids aren't always pp5 also

and even if they are, they have a tendency
to warp allowing for contams.

never personally seen it happen,
with any name brand container.

and, thats multi thousands  since 2003 with all plastic grows.

i also, use AA cookers, and butane for power.

select containers wisely, and its not an issue.

I've checked out a few super-cheapo containers with lids that were different and warped.
The main ones, and good ones, are assured to not do this.

I've used containers countless times, some certainly at least 40 PC runs, and they don't wear down at all.  They only scratch some depending on how you clean them.

It's because most people load cookers up with more sub in bags, and the heat must saturate far deeper into the core of a large substrate, taking more time.
Remember "bags" refers to Many sizes whereas "jars" refers mostly to quart jars for the purpose of this discussion.

If I sterilized a Large & loaded bag for less than 2 hours, CONTAM.
2 large bags of wet substrate in my 16qt cooker required 2.5-3 hours, or else CONTAM.

If you're inoculating a bag via the bag's open top, and then sealing it, it's almost necessary to have sterile airflow to fuck around with the bag and the sealer without contams or wanting to pull your hair out.

If using 'seals' on the bag with syringes, no you don't need sterile laminar airflow.
However I consider that a pain compared to sealing bags Afterwards.  Sealed bags would often burst in the cooker for me, annoying to find after 3 hours at pressure on the stove, a total waste.
